Victoria Collins Obituary

Victoria Collins

Resident of Almaden Valley

Born 10-11-1955, Died 11-07-2010

Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends. Born in Mankato, Minnesota, daughter of Dr. AA and Maxine Schmitz, she graduated from Good Counsel Academy (Mankato) in 1973 and the University of Minnesota in 1977.

Vicki enjoyed a 30+ year career in Sales at 3M Corporation working out of LA, Boston, Austin and San Jose. Vicki had a vibrant personality and made many, many friends in the Electronics industry. She loved to entertain clients and the highlight of her year would be to set up and run business meetings at the 3M facility in Wonewok, MN.

Vicki settled for good in San Jose in 1997 where she met her adoring husband, Chris Cook. Vicki and Chris enjoyed a large circle of friends and loved to travel as well as to spend time with each other at their home in Almaden Valley.

Vicki leaves behind loving sister Betty Zwisler, brothers Bill and Steve Schmitz, MD and many nieces, nephews and close friends. To know Vicki was to love her and she was the most nurturing person that you could ever hope to meet. She will be badly missed by all who knew her.

Grateful Thanks go to Dr. Dwight Chen and his staff at Palo Alto Medical Foundation, as well as the Staff at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View for the treatment Vicki received from them over the last 4 years during her very brave battle with Ovarian Cancer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society (http://www.cancer .org)

A Memorial Mass will be held at Holy Spirit Church, Redmond Ave., Almaden, 11:30 AM Monday November 15, 2010 with a private inurnment at the Little Chapel By-the-Sea in Pacific Grove the next day.

Vicki had a kindness and positive attitude that was a gift she passed on to everyone who met her. If there ever was a person who exemplified the philosphy of "pay it forward" it was Vicki. Gone way to soon but leaving a legacy that will grow forever.

This is my first Thanksgiving without Vicki in 13 years and I am having a tough time figuring out what to be thankful for. Last year Vicki and sat in the Sun in Maui eating our Turkey Dinner. We knew it could be our last one together, but always had faith that her life would be prolonged.

Now life seems very empty without her - I do so miss her wit, affection, caring and deep love. In spite of missing her so, I have to say that she is in a better place now - it's just so hard to be without her.

Thanks to all of you for the kind words - I appreciate your sentiments and I am sure that Vicki does too.

Vicky, what an AMAZING woman. Beautiful, smart, fun, full of life, a treasured friend and the most courageous woman we have ever known.
We pray she is at peace in her new life. A treasure like Vicky cannot go to waste.

Vicki and Maggie May were our first customers when we opened our Doggie Day Care, the Paws Mahal. They rapidly became our favorite customers and then our friends. We were honored to host Maggie the night before Vicki and Chris married and drove her to Monterey for the ceremony the next day where she was the "Dog of Honor" at Vicki's side. It was a beautiful wedding!

Vicki.......you have no idea how much I am already missing you. You brightened up so many of my days and were always there to keep me smiling and laughing. Your personality was infectious.
