Elizabeth Dukes Obituary

Elizabeth Sylvia Dukes

Resident of San Mateo

May 7, 1925 Nov. 8, 2010

Passed away peacefully on November 8, 2010. Beloved wife of the late Donald King Dukes. Devoted mother of Donna Lyn Holcomb, Michael Gerald Dukes, Charles William Dukes, and Elizabeth Ann Dukes. Cherished grandmother of 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She also lovingly helped raise Alyssa and Monica Morrison. Eldest daughter of the late Charles and Florence Mead. Dear sister of Gerald Mead, Ruby & Ralph Glover, Shirley & Joe James & Robert Mead. Also survived by numerous loving cousins, nephews and nieces.

Friends and family knew Elizabeth affectionately as Betty, Nan, and humorously as Queen Elizabeth. Proud of her English heritage she passed on her love of all things English to everyone she met. Elizabeth came to America in 1947 and lived for 60 years in San Mateo where she raised her four children. A homemaker and volunteer, she loved music, sang in the choir and played the piano. Elizabeth was an avid knitter who made quilts for all her grandchildren.

Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service, 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 12, 2010 at Sneider & Sullivan & O'Connell's Funeral Home, 977 So. El Camino Real in San Mateo. Private graveside services.

To the Dukes family. We just heard of your Mom's passing and send you our prayers and thoughts. I met your Mom (and Dad) when I was only 7 years old and my brother and his wife bought the house next door. Little did I know that I would be living there 16 years later with my husband, and then our children. Your Mom was always so sweet. Even after moving to Sacramento we would still stop by the old neighborhood and visit. Seeing that Ford Maverick in the driveway and your Mom being warm and inviting gave us such happy memories of living there. She will be missed so much.

To the Dukes family, sorry for your loss, may GOD give you his LOVE, PEACE, and STRENGTH in this time of sorrow. I am glad she was a women of GOD, she is in HEAVEN with our LORD JESUS CHRIST and she is in very good hands. She is being given all that GOD has promised his children who BELIEVE in him. Find comfort in knowing she will live forever, she will have no pain in her body anymore, and she is RESTING IN PEACE with GOD, and that is the best person we could hope to rest with. <3
