June Cartwright Obituary

June Cartwright

Resident of La Selva Beach

July 6, 1929 - Oct. 12, 2011

June passed away in her home at Heather Point surrounded by members of her family and the loving caregivers that have become part of our family.

June was born in New York to Wilbur and Lidie Doeg. She attended Richmond Hill High School and Queens College. She and Pete met in high school and were married in 1952. They celebrated their 59th anniversary in June this year.

June and Pete raised four wonderful children. Ginger and Barb were born while Pete was in the Navy; Ginger in Pensacola, Florida; Barb in Malta. Richard and Eric were born in San Jose, California.

June loved adventure and travel. She lived with her family in India for two years followed by four years in Japan. They traveled together in Southeast Asia, India, Japan, and throughout Europe, before returning to the United States, and finally settling in California.

She and her family lived in Saratoga for over thirty years before moving to La Selva Beach and their home at Heather Point overlooking the Monterey Bay.

Archeology became a passion for June including trips to Belize and Peru. She spent summers in the Four Corners area on excavations of Anaszai Indian sites.

June loved the sea and sailing. For many years she and Pete sailed on the San Francisco Bay. Sailing adventures also took them off the coast of Maine, around the San Juan Islands and off the coast of England. When she wasn't sailing, she found great pleasure in walking the beaches and bluffs of Northern California, especially at Point Reyes.

Her volunteer work included working in a Leper hospital in India and many years of service at Montalvo Arts Center in Saratoga.

June is survived by her husband, Pete Cartwright, daughter, Ginger Cartwright and husband, Jim Tice; daughter, Barb Cartwright; son, Richard Cartwright, son, Eric Cartwright and his wife, Ann their children, Ethan and Kaitlin Cartwright.

A Memorial service celebrating June's life will be held at La Selva Beach Community Church, 26 Florido Ave, La Selva Beach, California 95076, at 2:00 PM Sunday November 6, 2011.

Pete and Family, I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved June. When I heard the news I was sad for you all. I was talking to Ann Curtis and we shared stores about her on her trips for digging, Pete and her sailing, and how much she did love the ocean. We use to talk about her walks, she was so full of life was. Her humor and laughter, the many Calpine events that she attend, just speaking with her, she will be missed. She is now at peace, watching over the family. My thoughts are with you all, as I speak a silent prayer for her. All my love Wendy Harrington
