Tandy Little Obituary

Tandy D. Little, Jr., 93, died on July 11 at the Shell Point Retirement Community in Ft. Myers, FL. A graduate of Lanier High School, he earned an Electrical Engineering degree at Auburn University, and then served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Afterward, he joined the family business, Little Electric Company. Working with others to rebuild the Republican Party, he was elected to the Alabama State Legislature in 1962 and served a single term as the first Republican from Montgomery County since Reconstruction.

Branching out into real estate development, he and business partner Mac McKinney developed the Carmichael Road corridor, which opened the way for expansion to present-day Eastchase.

Throwing himself wholeheartedly into his interests, he loved sailing and flying, and helped to form and served as the first commodore for the Dixie Sailing Club on Lake Martin. Throughout his life, he had a love of bible study, often teaching, and was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. He painted architectural vignettes from travels, and redesigned homes in which he lived.

He is survived by three of his children, Linda Little of Lumberton, N.C.; Duncan Little of Seabrook, TX., and Ann Little of Montgomery, AL., and two grandchildren, Tandy Little IV of Tampa, FL., and Laura Pate of Clarksville, TN. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth "Teenie" Little, and his son, Don B. Little.

When our family moved to Alabama in 1990, Tandy Little quickly became a friend and encourager in our fellowship at Trinity Presbyterian Church and in our activity with the Republican Party. His son Don Little was a good friend and one of my first law students. Tandy was a man of courage and integrity who always stood for what is right, and he always did so with Southern grace and charm. Alabama is a better place because of Tandy Little.
