Gwendolyn Miles Obituary

Funeral services for Gwendolyn Miles, 77, of Belton, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 11, 2016 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Belton. She passed away Monday, March 7, 2016 at a local hospital. There will be a time of visitation and fellowship at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home, 503 N. Main St. Belton, TX 76513, on Thursday, March 10, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Gwen was born November 8, 1938 in Lampasas, Texas to the late Katharine Bryant and George Jefferson Norris. She is survived by three siblings and their spouses - Nona Slaughter, Ronnie and Betty Rains, and Donnie and Sharon Rains. Gwen married Lowell Miles in Midland, Texas on February 15, 1957. Gwen lived in Arkansas for many years. She moved with her husband and children to Belton in 1976 to help her husband constitute a Primitive Baptist Church which is still thriving in Temple, Texas. Gwen's 23 years of service as a Belton ISD cafeteria manager were recognized upon her retirement in a local paper. "Mrs. Miles never treated a student or adult with anything but respect. She has fed a multitude of hungry little folks and waited patiently as kindergartners tried to choose certain foods and learned often the hard way, how to carry their trays without dumping them on her or their neighbor. Through it all, she kept smiling and hugging those who needed it." She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and loved spending time with the children. Gwen was a fountain of good-will, and she was loved by everyone who knew her. She will be remembered for her sweet nature, sense of humor, and fighting spirit. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Miles on June 4, 2006; her mother and father; and her brother, Harold Norris. Survivors include four children and their spouses, Teresa and James Rush, Laresa and Jon Trusty, Debra and Mike Martin, and son, Billy Miles. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Joshua and Alisha Rush, Leah and Armi Easterby, Erin and Terry Timberlake, Brandy and Dustin Smith, Jennifer and Brandon Mathiews, Daniel Rush and Melissa Baddock, Adam Trusty and Stephanie Mullins, Steven and Amanda Trusty, Kimberly and James Burgess, Blake Miles Blanchard, Brandon Miles, and David Miles, and by 10 great-grandchildren. She was loved dearly and will be greatly missed.
