Irene Alice Hofmann Slocum

AGE: 87 • Pensacola, Fla.

Irene Alice Hofmann Slocum, 87, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2011, at the Bayside Manor of Pensacola, Fla. She was a graduate of Manasquan High School in New Jersey. She worked as a telephone operator during World War II, and married John Walter Slocum of Ocean in May 1947. She was a member of the Wanamassa Women's Auxiliary and an avid bowler. She later operated a tour business in Phoenix, Ariz., and traveled to Europe and Hawaii with her family. Ms. Slocum retired to Florida in 1990.

She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Slocum and wife Maggie of Asbury Park, and John Slocum and wife Janet of Ocean; her daughter, Debra Setrin of Fredericksburg, Va.; her granddaughter, Dawn Setrin of Pensacola, Fla.; and 20 nieces and nephews. Ms. Slocum enjoyed going to the beach and going out for ice cream with her granddaughter. Her smile and cheerful personality will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 18 at The Wayside United Methodist Church, 1229 West Park Ave, Ocean, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Family Services, 1901 N, Palafox St., Pensacola, FL 32501.
