Elaine Scheckner Obituary
AGE: 88 •
Elaine Scheckner, Co-owner of Larry's Kosher Deli with husband, age 88, died on Friday, July 15, 2016 at Cooper Medical Center in Camden, NJ. Mrs. Scheckner was born in Newark, had lived in Plainfield and Watchung before moving to Voorhees three years ago. She graduated from Weequhaic High School and studied Psychology at Newark State Teachers College (now Kean University). Mrs. Scheckner was a member of Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains and Temple Beth Am in Lakewood, NJ. She enjoyed cooking, fine dining, fashion, playing mah-jong, Broadway shows, listening to Frank Sinatra and gardening. She was a co- owner of Larry's Kosher Deli in Plainfield with her husband Larry.
Mrs. Scheckner is predeceased by her husband Larry Scheckner (1990) and her brother Leonard Pirchesky. She is survived by her son Jeff Scheckner and his partner Jay Mandel of Union, NJ; her daughter Holly Lange of Philadelphia, PA; and her two grandchildren Harlan and Joshua Scheckner.
Graveside services will be held today, July 17, 2016 at 2:00 at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge, NJ. Family and friends are invited to meet at the cemetery office at 1:45pm before the service begins. Funeral Services are under the direction of Higgins Home for Funerals, Plainfield, NJ. Dearest Jeff and Holly,
I am so saddened about the loss of your mom. I had a dream of her last night and asked my daughter to try to find her online. Sadly enough this is how I learned of moms passing.
This is Lillian, I worked for your parents 27 years. No other bosses can compare to them. Elaine was one of a kind. She always lent an hear to listen to and a shoulder to lean on.
You have my deepest sympathy.......Hopefully you both find solace knowing your parents are resting in peace together.

Thanks for the good wishes everyone. My mom had leukemia but that was in check until May of this year. The best part of her life was being with my dad Larry and proudly working with him at the deli. I have so many wonderful memories of my mom, loved spending time with her and miss her so much. She absolutely loved her grandchildren- my kids Harlan and Josh and they are taking it real hard. It is with much sadness that I learn about the passing of a once dear friend. Having moved to Florida and rarely if ever return to New Jersey, I lost touch with Elaine. To Holly and Jeff I extend my deepest sympathy as well as to Harlan, Joshua and Jay. I very much regret the passing of time without contact, but please accept my heartfelt condolences.

Holly and Jeff, So sorry to hear about your mom. So many memories of Larry's Deli,
eating there, working there, chatting there. I remember when your mom and mine commuted to Newark State together. I think my dad gave your mom driving lessons. Elaine was always a gracious host with a great smile. Condolences to you both.
