Gloria Carter Obituary
Plainfield
Gloria E. Carter, passed 8/23/2013 at the Genesis at the Woodlands Health Care Facility in Plainfield. Born in Washington DC. She has lived in Plainfield for many yrs. A graduate of Howard University receiving her MSW with honors, she was employed at Belleview Hospital in NY, Director of Social Services at Muhlenberg RMC., and Supervisor of Case Management at the United Family and Children's Society in Plainfield. In addition she was a chartered member of the Raritan Valley Links Inc., the Central Jersey Alumnae Chapter of delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., the Plainfield branch of American University Women and many other affiliations.
She is survived by her husband of 63 yrs Herman, daughter Susan Fowler, granddaughter Ambrosia Fowler and a host of loving relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday 11AM at the United Church of Christ Congregational, 220 West 7th St., Plainfield. At the request of the family, visitation will be held Tuesday (Today) 7-9PM at Judkins Colonial Home, 428 West 4th st., Plainfield and again Wednesday 10-11AM at the United Church of Christ. My sincere condolences on the passing of your beloved mother and grandmother. Gloria was my supervisor and mentor in the early 80s at United Family & Children's Society, and I remember her very fondly. She was kind and understanding with a quiet strength, and my life was greatly enriched by having known her. May your warm and loving memories always be a source of comfort for you.

Gloria was a woman of class and distinction. My association was with her was through the board of United Family & Children's Society. We will miss her as a friend, her guidance and elegance. Think of all the lives she has touched. She has left a legacy of faith, leadership and compassion. We should all be thankful for knowing her, and know that her loved ones need to live in her memory.

I am so sorry to hear of Gloria's passing and send my love and condolences to Herman and the rest of Gloria's family. Although I did not personally know Gloria well, my mother often spoke of Gloria as a colleague she respected, and as a friend whom she loved. She will be missed.
