Mel Canady Obituary
Plainfield
Mel Rose Canady (nee Perry) transitioned this life on May 27, 2017 at JFK Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey. Born in Eagle Rock, North Carolina, she was a graduate of Shepard High School (Zebulon, NC) and North Carolina Central College at Durham (now North Carolina Central University). Mrs. Canady lived in Washington D.C. and Minnesota before moving to Plainfield in 1968. She began her career as a biologist with the National Institutes of Health in Washington D.C. and retired as an elementary school teacher with the New Brunswick Public School System in 2010. Following her retirement, Mrs. Canady enjoying spending time with family/friends, traveling and community service. She was active in and served in a leadership role with a host of organizations, including the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (AKA) and National Association of University Women (NAUW), New Brunswick Education Association (NBEA), New Jersey Orators, and City of Plainfield Shut-In Council.
She was predeceased by her parents, James Edward and Rosa Perry and 11 siblings. She leaves to cherish in her memory her loving family: husband Leroy, son Terrence, daughter Tamara, grandchildren Bryson and Gabrielle, brothers Elmer and Theron Perry, sister Justine Perry and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the AKA Sorority or NAUW High School Scholarship Programs. . Funeral services will be held Saturday 11Am at the Covenant United Methodist Church 631 E. Front Street, Plainfield. Visitation will be held Saturday 10-11Am at the church. To Family and Friends of my Aunt Melrose Perry Canady, here on God's earth, we were blessed with a very kind and compassionate individual, loving us unconditionally. Now in heaven, we are blessed with another Forever Angel.
My heart is heavy, but my spirits are high because I know our Forever Angel is with us. It is with heartfelt sympathy that I send my condolences.
