Colleen Goldsack Obituary

Colleen Madden Goldsack

AGE: 63 • Somerset

Colleen (Madden) Goldsack, 63, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at The Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, NY following a long illness.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 40 years (The Hon. Canon) John Wood Goldsack; two devoted children, Dorothy-Jane Colleen Goldsack Porpeglia (Theodore) and Kevin Grant Goldsack (Hugh Graham, and companion Michael Athanasatos); two cherished grandchildren, Grace-Ann Colleen & Amelia-Hope Helene Porpeglia; an adoring sister, Aileen Gaumond; a loving niece, Stephanie Gaumond; two dedicated nephews, Justin Gaumond and Timothy Hussey; and a dedicated sister-in-law, Caryle Steggall. She was cherished by her family and many friends.

Born in Oneonta, NY while her father attended Hartwick College, Colleen spent the majority of her life in NJ, before returning to her birth State of NY this summer for the final stage of her life. She met her husband through choir tour while they were both students at Hartwick. Her daughter continued the tradition, also graduating from her Alma Mater. Following her college graduation, Colleen taught high school mathematics for many years before retiring in the mid-1980s to raise her two children. Always a teacher, Colleen continued to tutor and was a Girl Scout leader for several years. Earlier in her life, she was an avid sportswoman and enjoyed her travels to Mexico and Europe. Colleen enjoyed music, writing poetry and letters, photography and many other creative endeavors, as well as time at Green Pond and Lake Hopatcong with family, and time at the beach watching sunrises and sunsets.

A musical memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 10 North Main Ave. at the corner of Madison, Albany, NY, on Friday, November 11, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. The family will receive friends and relatives beginning at 5:30 p.m., and again immediately following the service until 8:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at her NJ parish home, St. John's Episcopal Church, 158 West High Street, Somerville, NJ on Saturday, November 12, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., with a repast immediately following. A private interment of her ashes will be held at the convenience of the family. To the family,

I had Mrs. Goldsack as my Algebra I teacher at Watchung Hills Regional back in 1972-73. She was a wonderful & caring teacher, one of the few I remember because of her dedication.

Dear John, Dorothy Jane and Kevin,
I just learned of Colleen's passing. I am so very sorry and wish to extend my condolences to each of you. I have many fond memories of our times together at Lake Hopatcong when we were kids John. Those memories continued when we both raised our children on the Island as well. Legacy is a wonderful thing and having us all there for those years continues to be a treasured memory for me. I am glad to have known Colleen and I trust she is in God's hands well beyond the pain and suffering I know she endured. My love to you all, Jill

Colleen was a special friend. We laughed and cried together. We could always pick up where we left off even if it was months since we saw each other. She was such a creative person and loved her family dearly. God knew it was time to bring her home but wish she could have had more time with us. Our hearts go out to you at this sad time.

Dear John, Dorothy-Jane and Kevin,

We are very sorry for your loss. Colleen was a wonderful person - I still can't believe she is gone. I will never forget all the good times we shared on Mali Drive/Ivy Place. She was always there for me - in good times and bad. Thanks for being a good friend. Colleen may you rest in peace - until we meet again.

For the years when Colleen taught at Watchung Hills we were colleagues. It was always fun to spend time with her. A favorite highlight was the year she returned pregnant with Dorothy-Jane and the little shower we had at school. My sincere condolences go out to all of you at this time.
