Rollin Gene Acheson, 81, of rural Rushville, passed away at 10:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at the Culbertson Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Facility in Rushville.
He was born Jan. 29, 1930, on the Acheson homestead in Bainbridge Township, Schuyler County. He was the son of the late Wilbur and Mary (Robeson) Acheson. He married Wanda Walker on March 4, 1951, at the First United Methodist Church in Rushville. She preceded him in death Oct. 28, 2006.
He is survived by two sons, Larry Acheson and wife June of Plano, Texas, and Alan Acheson and wife Holly of rural Rushville; and a daughter, Linda Cockerill and husband Terry of Jacksonville. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, David Wiley and wife Amy of Springfield, Joshua Wiley and wife Hilarie of Colorado Springs, Colo., Kristen Wiley of New Berlin, Rusty Acheson and wife Diane of Oak Harbor, Wash., Kristi Cockerill Griffith and husband Jonathan of Florissant, Mo., Allison Cockerill of Jacksonville, Ashley Cockerill of Jacksonville, Keely Acheson of Rushville and Katie Acheson of Rushville. One brother, Raymond Acheson (wife, Deborah) of Aurora, Colo., also survives. Three great-grandchildren, Owen Griffith, Alyssa Wiley and Gabriel Gene Acheson also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one daughter, Janice Marlene Wiley (surviving husband, Rich of New Berlin); one brother, Donald Acheson; and one grandson, Michael Wiley. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He graduated from Rushville High School in 1948. After graduating from high school, he enjoyed a rewarding career in farming until retirement in 2006. He and his wife farmed all of their married life in rural Rushville with the exception of the years 1958-1961 spent on a dairy farm near Rockford. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rushville and the Boosters Sunday School class. He was a member of the Schuyler County Farm Bureau, having served on the board of directors, a former board member of the Blue Cross/Blue Shield HIA Board, a past director of the Rushville Farmer's Elevator Company and Schuyler-Brown FS and served on the county committee of the Schuyler County USDA Farm Service Agency.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Rushville. Interment will be at the Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Worthington Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church of Rushville.
