John Westbrook Obituary

John Edwin Westbrook, born April 25, 1951, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2013. He was 62 years old. John grew up in Midland, Texas where he was actively involved in Boy Scouts, earning his Eagle Scout Badge by the age of 15 years old. Upon graduating high school, John attended Texas Tech University, but graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 1976. Two years later, in 1978, John earned his Juris Doctorate Degree from Baylor University Law School. Although a Baylor graduate, John was a zealous Red Raider fan. John's law tenure began with the Cherokee County District Attorney's Office. He moved on to Dallas County for a short time, and then began a prestigious career in Midland County, serving as the First Assistant District Attorney. After leaving Midland County, he served in Coryell County and Ellis County District Attorney Offices. In 2008, John came to Navarro County serving as an Assistant District Attorney. After retiring from the county in 2010, John continued a private law practice in Corsicana. John had many hobbies throughout his life, some of which included competition shooting, playing softball with his friends in Midland, camping, hunting, snow skiing, photography and wood working. John was a current member of the Blue Knights, and he also participated in the Patriot Guard. John was preceded in death by his parents William and Patricia Westbrook, sister, Sally Westbrook and former wife Lisa Westbrook. John is survived by his wife, Terri Westbrook of Corsicana, Texas; her children, Lee McCain of Dallas, Texas, Kasie Stagman and her husband, Adam of Bastrop, Texas; brother Stephen Westbrook and his wife Shirley, of Sugarland, Texas; sister Susan Buck of Bossier City, Louisiana; Nieces Lana Redmond, and her husband Joseph, Carrie Salinas and her husband Greg, Heather Sillowitz and her husband Jason; Nephews, Commander John Ferguson of the U.S. Navy and wife Jill, Buddy Lemmon III, and Jason Buck and numerous great nieces and nephews as well as many friends. John will be remembered by his warm heart, his quick wit, and his ability to make those around him smile. Since John was a tissue and eye donor, he will live on through the lives of many. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Corley Funeral Home, Corsicana, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 11, at 2:00 p.m. at Corley Funeral Home, with Brother Tony Neal officiating. There will be no graveside service, for John's wishes were to be cremated.

John Westbrook was my friend at Midland Lee H.S. in the late 60's, well known by many. Terrific sense of humour, and a quick wit, regardless of the situation. Always upbeat. Great fun and a ring leader of mirth on our many Band bus trips to football games, contests, etc. Rolling across West Texas on Fall Friday nights in yellow school buses, singing, flirting with the girls and joking. I smile when I think of John, he was a good friend and author of many happy memories in the Rebel Band. The Lord take him and keep him.
