Allen Woodger Himes

1926 - 2015

WILLIAMSBURG - Allen Woodger Himes, 88, of Williamsburg, Virginia, passed peacefully in his home on Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Allen was the beloved husband of Kay Himes (Silber). Born August 9, 1926 in Odessa, Missouri, he was the sixth child of the late Gordon Allen Himes and Roberta Bryant Himes. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn Darlene Hickman (d. 1985) and a son, Paul Allen Himes. Allen was a graduate of Los Angeles High School, UCLA, The University of California (Berkeley) and American University and a proud alumnus of Pepperdine University. He was trained as a mechanical engineer and retired from the Office of Naval Research after 34 years as a federal employee. He was a member of the Senior Executive Service and served as Associate Director of Navy Laboratories. Allen was an enthusiastic player and watcher of tennis and a devoted lifelong member of the Church of Christ. In addition to his wife, Kay, he is survived by his daughter, Patti Ann Himes of Searcy, Arkansas; three grandsons, Patrick, William and Michael Looney; three great grandchildren; a stepson; seven step grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. There will be a funeral service at the Williamsburg, Virginia Church of Christ at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 3, 2015. Burial and a brief graveside service will be held at National Memorial Park, Falls Church, Virginia at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2015.
