Cynthia and Alan,
Please know that I had a great respect for Art and always will. He was a true friend that could be counted on always. As a sports writer, he treated me with respect and was always cordial. You now have a friend that you can count on and call on if ever I can be of any assistance to you. Alan, like a shared with you at the funeral, always make your Dad proud. Athletics is great and I wish you well in that area, but remember that is good grades and an education (high school and college) that will help you the most in succeeding in life.
Call on me anytime of day or night and I will be there for you:
Cell: (361) 215-3316 or at Home (361) 850-9796
Alan, some other words to live by:
1. Continue to seek knowledge
2. Stand up for what is right
3. And some day, give back to those that helped you

Signed: Richard Avila, former CCISD Athletic Director

I'll never forget my time in Corpus Christi, often working alongside Art in covering some of the most remarkable events the city had ever seen. He was a consummate professional, a proactive journalist and, most importantly, a fine friend. Cindy, I'm so sorry for your loss, as someone who not only appreciated working shoulder to shoulder with Art, but in often having to chase his leads in reporting. He was the best. God bless.
