Buford Weldon McClurg, 90, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 in Plainview, Texas. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. November 1, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church in Tulia with Rev. Rob Lindley officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Friday, October 31, 2025 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel in Tulia, Texas.
Buford was born on September 14, 1935 in Tulia to Elmer and Janie (Adams) McClurg. After proudly graduating from high school, Buford enlisted in the United States Army, where he served with honor before being discharged. On May 27, 1953, he married Barbara (Grantham) at their home in Tulia.
Buford’s life was a tapestry woven with dedication to his work and his passions. As a farmer and postal carrier, he devoted himself tirelessly to his roles, leaving a lasting impact on those around him. He was involved with the Rural Carrier Association, the Quarter Horse Association, and as a Texas A&M Parent of the Year in 1993. As a trusted 4H leader, he inspired countless young people, passing on his love for agriculture and horses.
He found joy in roping and showing horses, showcasing not just his skills, but his deep-seated passion for the equestrian world. Above all, Buford adored his grandchildren, showering them with love and guidance, making treasured memories that will forever remain in their hearts.
Among his many accomplishments, Buford was proud to receive the FFA America Farmer Degree and to celebrate multiple ABRA World Championships. Each achievement painted a picture of a life well-lived, filled with determination and pride.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Elmer and Janie McClurg; his grandson, Cole McClurg and his daughter in-law, Penny McClurg.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara McClurg; his daughters, Misty McClurg & husband Julio De La Garza and Julie Brantley & husband Stephen; his son, Dudley McClurg; his brother, Eldon McClurg; his grandsons, Kelton Skinner, Josh McClurg, Colt Brantley; his granddaughters, Sterling Skinner & husband Daniel, Stormie McClurg, Breann Hemingway & husband Dan.
