Calvin Boone Gore

Calvin Boone Gore was born September 24, 1925 in Horatio, Arkansas to Charner and Nellie Gore, and passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Long Beach, California.

Calvin was the middle child of five children who grew up in Arkansas. After graduating from Wickes High School, he went to Bridgeport, Connecticut for job training and work. From there, he was drafted into the United States Navy during World War II and served his country on a ship in the South Pacific until the war ended. Later he came to California where he worked for Douglas Aircraft in Santa Monica. He retired from McDonnell Douglas in Long Beach after 40 years of service.

In June of 1973, David Jennings and Harold Hilton were having gospel meetings in the L.A. area when Calvin made his choice to serve God.

In July of 1973, Calvin married Audrey (Raschein) Strassburg, and they made their home in Cerritos, California. Calvin and Audrey had a union meeting in their home for a number of years, and from 1995 until the present a Sunday morning fellowship meeting has been in their home. Their home was always open to workers and friends through the years, and that fellowship meant so much to them.

Calvin was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Laura Jordan; and two brothers, Kent and Walter Gore.

Calvin is survived by his wife Audrey Gore; step-daughter, Linda (Jay) Wilson of Torrance, California; granddaughter, Jaimie (Wayne) Nelson of Gilbert, Arizona; two grandsons, Jarrod Wilson of Torrance, California and Joshua (Shannon) Wilson of Lawndale, California; and one great granddaughter, Layla Wilson of Lawndale, California.

Calvin is also survived by one brother, C. Hal (Margaret) Gore of Carmichael, California; three nieces: Lisa Gore, Nellie Sue Arenson, and Naoma Miller; and a sister-in-law, Evon Gore; and many many friends.
