Cordia Tubbs Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 20, 2015.
Cordia Thomas Tubbs, Jr., 83, a 15 year resident of Edmond, OK, died at 7:50 a.m. on November 19, 2015, after a long struggle with cancer.

Born in Chandler, OK on August 31, 1932, Mr. Tubbs was the son of the late Cordia T. Tubbs, Sr. and Rosie Tubbs. One of six children, he loved to fish, hunt and play baseball. At only 15 years old, Cordia was able to procure a bank loan for his father without any collateral or cash flow; it was truly based on his boldness and ability to establish trust.

Cordia also became very fond of baking, and even later opened his own pie parlor. A true entrepreneur, in addition to his baking ventures, Mr. Tubbs also established a reputable facilities maintenance company, which he successfully ran for over 30 years, and worked with OU Medical Center.

He was an outgoing, energetic man. Highly action oriented, he made decisions based on facts and logic, accepted conflicts as normal in relationships, and was objective. Mr. Tubbs took pride in focusing on details, and worked hard to plan things out and stay ahead. He took comfort in routines, created practical solutions to problems, and enjoyed living in the present moments of daily life.

Tubbs struggled with alcoholism in his younger years, but he prided himself on developing a strong relationship with God, effectively transforming himself from a prisoner to a preacher. In his leisure hours and before more severe illness set in, he enjoyed watching boxing matches, attending OKC Thunder basketball games, and watching movies with his wife. Cordia's great passion, however, was his love for the Lord, and he enjoyed sharing his faith with everyone he met. He was a member of Victory Christian Church, and will long be remembered as a man of faith, and devoted husband and loving father.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Betty J. Tubbs; daughters Gladys and Marion, and sons Lamar and wife Tarsha of Tulsa, OK; and Robert and wife Diosa of Crofton, MD; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Those heavy hands prayed over me
Those heavy hands baked a pie for me

That smile opened doors for me
That smile opened the word for me

His heart warmed every hug
His heart was in every prayer circle
One hand, one smile, one heart

So long earthly being, so long earthly conversations

Rejoicing in the legacy and the memories left behind

Serenading that journey you have longed for
One hand, one smile, one heart

You are in my prayers. Min Tubbs was a man of GOD and he proved it every day. I met him on my job and we became brother and sister. We prayed together many times. He would have so many encouraging things to share. He did not ever forget my sister, Mother Taft, he would go to see here in the nursing home and that meant a lot to me. He showed Christian love. Sis Betty I love you and I will not ever forget Min Tubbs, you are in my prayers.
