It greatly saddens us to learn of the passing of our classmate, Dana Giulian. My wife, Victoria Iwanij, and I were doctoral students with Dana at the Rockefeller University in the 1970's. Dana sent us a lovely gift when our son was born in 1991.

Dear Elaine,
Words can not begin to express our saddness with the loss of Dana. We went to Wis to stay with both families since the beginning of time. I can remember one time he was driving and we had to stop in the road while he waited for the ducks to cross the road (maybe thats how he became known as Dana Duck). I will always remember how he came late after Moms' funeral to visit but came and then again you two came for Jillians and Bill's funeral --we will always remember those acts of kindness....and then to name one of your sons for Bill what an honor for our family. We were speechless. I am sure you know what a completion you and the boys are for him. He finally had the family he always wanted. We will contiune to hope and pray for your peace and comfort.

Elaine, it has been a very long time - I was deeply sadden to hear about Dr. Giulian. I will treasure the fond memories I have of him and the rest of the lab staff, and other personnel working in Neurology 4th floor. I learned a lot from Dr. Giulian. One of the first things Dr. Giulian taught me about preparing (his) grants was that it's not only the content, but it's how it looks on paper. He always made me laugh, everytime he saw me his favorite thing to say was, "Oh, Oh, there trouble!", I'll never forget him. May he rest in peace. I pray that our Lord and Jesus Christ will comfort you and your family during this time of your lost. May God continue to keep you in his perfect peace! Carmen Wallace

Dear Elaine. I am so sorry for your loss. DG was a very generous man. He gave many of us a great start to our careers. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity he gave me to work with him in his lab, and for the encouragement, support and guidance he offered to move beyond bench work. His tireless and dedicated work in research will, no doubt, continue to benefit science and medicine but his fatherly intuition, even before your boys were born, benefitted countless more. DG will surely be missed. My prayers and condolences are with you and your family. May he rest in peace.

I had the pleasure of working with Dana and will always look back on our time together fondly. What I remember most about Dana was the sheer elation he exhibited when discussing his boys and Elaine. Elaine, I am terribly sorry for your loss.

To Elaine, and David and William,
Our thoughts, prayers, and sympathies are with you at this sad hour of loss. We, too, have suffered a great and irreplaceable loss, of a loyal friend and boss. We know that there is nothing he would not have done for us, and, in return, we have the deepest respect and admiration for him. These are feeble words at a time like this, as each of us owes him a great debt. Our hope is to somehow continue his work as a lasting memorial to him, and as his gift to the world, to fulfill the promise of reduction of suffering that his research meant. We hope you can take some comfort in this for the future, and that wonderful memories of him will last forever.

We would like to think that we will know to do whatever you need to help you, but if you think of something you need, please call on us without hesitation.
