David Vara Sr., age 65, of San Bernardino, California, passed away on October 18, 2025, in San Bernardino. He was born on February 16, 1960, in Los Angeles, California to John Vara and Maria “Esperanza” Garcia. He was the eldest of 5 sons and made San Bernardino his home for over 52 years.

David was a devoted husband to Rose Vara, and a loving father to David Vara Jr. (who preceded him in death), Denise Vara, Christina Vara, and Natalie Montelongo. He was a proud grandfather to Destinie Vara, David Vara III, Isaac Vara married to Isabela, Ronni Vara and Miley Vara, and was reunited in heaven with his grandson Ezekiel Vara. He was a loving and caring Godfather to many.

David served in the Army, and for more than 20 years, David worked as a drug and alcohol counselor, dedicating his life to helping at-risk youth and others overcome challenges and find a better path forward. His work made a lasting difference in the lives of many throughout the community. He was also involved in street ministry, where he prayed with the homeless and brought people closer to God. He enjoyed fishing, barbecuing, and spending time with his family. A man of strong faith, David was a Christian who loved Jesus and found comfort and strength in reading the Bible.

A service to celebrate David’s life will be held at Emmerson-Bartlett Memorial Chapel in Redlands, November 03, 2025 at 10am. Immediately following will be the burial at Mt. View Cemetery in San Bernardino.

He will be deeply missed by his family and all who loved him, but his memory and faith will continue to live on through those whose lives he touched. “Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
