Doris Opal McDade

Doris Opal McDade 96 of Amarillo died on February 14, 2012. Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 18, 2013 at Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel with Chaplain Danny Mize Hospice of the Southwest officiating.burial will be in Palo Duro Cemetery, Wildorado, Texas Arrangements by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell, Amarillo, TX Mrs. McDade was born in Wildorado, Texas and lived most of her life there until moving to Amarillo in 1995. She was the daughter of J.P. "Pete" Gouldy and Opal Gouldy, a pioneer farming family that moved to the Wildorado area around 1905. She was a retired businesswoman and operated a Texaco service station and grocery with her husband for many years on Route 66 in Wildorado. She was one of only a few who were actually born in the Wildorado community and spent most of her life there. She graduated from Wildorado High School and attended Amarillo College when classes were held in the old Amarillo Municipal Auditorium. She was active in the Wildorado Methodist Church from the time she accepted Christ as her Savior at age 10 in 1927 until the church closed. Most recently she worshipped at Paramount Baptist Church in Amarillo until she was no longer able to attend. She married Dee McDade in August 1938 in Amarillo. They were married for almost 50 years until his death in 1987. Their relationship still continues. She was a devoted wife, mother grandmother and "Mimi". She was also a remarkable example of a Christian lady all her life. Preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Wayne Gouldy and Eldon Gouldy.
She is survived by a daughter, Karen Sexton and husband Dewayne of Abernathy, her son, Gary McDade and wife Sylvia of Amarillo, a sister Lois Meador of Canyon, a sister-in-law Charolyn Gouldy of Wildorado, four granddaughters, Kelly Sexton, Katy Alspaugh and husband Jared, Amy McDade and Carrie McDade, and many nieces and nephews.
