Dr. Ronald D. Jackson, a beloved member of his community and a dedicated educator, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025, in Clarksville, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 5, 1942, in New Albany, Indiana, Ronald was a remarkable individual whose life was characterized by a profound commitment to education, family, and personal growth.
Ronald's academic journey began early in life when he graduated from Clarksville High School. He furthered his education at Indiana Southeast in New Albany, earning two master’s degrees—one in education and one in counseling. His quest for knowledge did not stop there; he completed his Doctorate in Philosophy in Education, reflecting his pride in his educational achievements and his constant drive to learn and better himself.
Ronald devoted his professional life to Crothersville Community Schools as a retired school teacher and school counselor. He was not only an educator but also an inspiration to his students, imparting life lessons through subjects that extended beyond the classroom. A black belt in karate, Ronald shared his passion for martial arts with his students, teaching them discipline and resilience.
In addition to his academic and professional accomplishments, Ronald served in the United States Army, enlisting on July 31, 1962, in Chicago, Illinois. He rose to the rank of Specialist 5 and was honorably discharged on July 28, 1965, an experience that contributed to his deep sense of duty and responsibility.
Ronald had a variety of interests that brought him joy, including sitting in nature, enjoying the sunlight from his swing, reading, riding his motorcycle, and nurturing his fascination with exotic animals. These hobbies were a testament to his appreciation for the beauty of life and his adventurous spirit.
Family was at the heart of Ronald’s life. He is survived by his devoted wife, Laura Jackson, his daughter Vikke (James) McClure, and his son Brian Jackson. He cherished his grandchildren: David (Nicole) McClure, Melissa (Stan) McClure, Alexandria Reed, and Lara Daniel, as well as his great-grandchildren Jocelyn, Ashlyn, Natalie, Xander, Kingsley, and David. His family was his pride and joy, and many knew him affectionately as "Grandpa" by choice, reflecting the deep bonds he formed with those around him.
He is preceded in death by his sons Trevis Jackson and Donald Jackson, as well as his father Benjamin Jackson, mother Margaret Best, numerous grandparents, and siblings. These losses shaped Ronald’s life and instilled in him a profound sense of compassion and understanding.
Dr. Ronald D. Jackson will be remembered as a kind-hearted man who touched the lives of countless individuals through his dedication to education, his love for family, and his unwavering commitment to personal growth. His legacy will endure in the hearts of his loved ones, the students he taught, and the friends he cherished throughout his life.
