E. Joanne Applegate Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 28 to Oct. 31, 2023.
E. Joanne Applegate passed peacefully in her home in Zionsville, Indiana surrounded by the love of her family and friends on October 23, 2023, just a day after celebrating her 96th birthday.

Born to Karry and Ruth Kaiser on October 22, 1927, Joanne was raised in Orleans, Indiana with nine brothers and sisters. She lived most of her life in Zionsville with her husband of 49 years, Donald Applegate, who proceeded her in death in August of 1997. Together they had four children, Marc (Jody), Beth Applegate, David (Connie), all of Zionsville, and Julie (Steve) Freccero of San Francisco. Joanne is also survived by ten grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, along with two sisters.

Joanne was an avid quilter and knitter who enjoyed reading and baking but is most remembered by her family and friends as an adventurous and independent spirit who loved yoga, hiking and travel. All these hobbies brought countless treasured friendships to Joanne through the years.

Joanne was actively involved with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed spending as much time as possible with all of them. She attended many of their various activities and always invited them to join in hers.

Joanne was a member of Zionsville United Methodist Church of Zionsville and the Zionsville American Legion. She was a supporter of the Peace Through Yoga and was proud to be one of the first sponsors for their Girls' School in Costa Rica. Joanne also enjoyed traveling with the Indianapolis Hiking Club and logged over 14,000 miles during her time as a member.
