Gayle Sandra "Sandy" Jeffcoat

Austin - Gayle Sandra Burchfield Jeffcoat, known to most as "Sandy," age 71 years old, passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2017 after a long-fought battle of complicated health issues.



Sandy is survived by her three pride and joys - her son, Cory Wade Jeffcoat, of Edinburg; her daughter, Holly Brooke Deshields, and her grandson, Hunt William Deshields, both of Austin.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Pauline Burchfield, of Tyler; and her brother, Leonard Doss Burchfield, of Tyler.



Sandy entered this world on September 11, 1946 in Tyler, Texas. She grew up in Tyler and attended Robert E. Lee High School. She went on to Tyler Junior College and was a proud Apache Belle. Sandy graduated from the University of North Texas in Denton with a bachelor's degree in education and then moved to Dallas to begin her teaching career. Ms. Jeffcoat continued on as a bilingual elementary school educator in districts around the state including the Rio Grande Valley, Lubbock, and Tyler. After making a difference in thousands of students' lives, she retired in 2005.



All who have met Sandy know she was a social butterfly who was committed to being a dedicated friend and a shoulder to lean on. She always loved to have a good time and be surrounded by those who loved her. She enjoyed decorating endlessly for every holiday, driving around in eye-catching convertibles, and traveling across the country to experience everything the world has to offer. Her family and friends will always remember her for the sparkle in her eyes and a great sense of humor.

Sandy was a charter member of Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler, Texas and attended services with Covenant Methodist Church during her time in Austin.



A Celebration of Life service was held on Saturday, December 9th at Brookdale North Austin Assisted Living.

The family would like to extend its sincerest thank you to the Staff at Brookdale North Austin Assisted Living and the Brookdale Hospice Team. These individuals loved Sandy like she was their own mother, and Holly and Cory cannot think of a more special group of people for her to be surrounded by during the hardest days.
