Gibson Helmick Obituary
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ginger Helmick, and brother, Ira Helmick (Mary), nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He worked a number of different jobs, including jobs for the State, and retired from Verizon with 33 years of service. He served five years in the U.S. Marine Corps, and several years in the Army National Guard.
He traveled with his wife to all 50 US States and 21 countries.
Gibson was a member of Monument Heights Baptist Church for 54 years where he served as Deacon, Brotherhood Director, Church Training Director, Youth Leader and teacher, and on many committees. He loved greeting people, and telling a joke.
The family would like to thank Pastor Sean McGuire, Associate Pastor Jon Holste, remaining Staff and Congregation of Monument Heights Baptist Church for their prayers, Scripture Readings, Love, Compassion, Visits, and Phone Calls during this time. Thanks also to Robyn Burdette and Affinity Care for doing everything possible to give Comfort and Peace to Gibson.Thanks also to neighbors, and friends.
A visitation will be held Thursday Nov. 2nd from 6 to 8 p.m. at Woody Funeral Home-Parham. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday Nov. 3rd at 11 a.m. at Monument Heights Baptist Church, 5716 Monument Ave. Richmond, VA. Interment with military honors will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Monument Heights Baptist Church.

I was so shocked to hear that my buddy was no longer with us physically. I will surely miss your sense of humor. You always had a kind word for me and always left me laughing. My deepest condolences to Ms. Virginia and the rest of your family.

Gibson was a wonderful neighbor to our family. He always greeted our two boys with snacks, jokes and asked how they were doing in school. We will miss him dearly and continue to remember the fond memories that we cherished with he and Ginger. Ginger, We send our love and prayers to you during this difficult time.
