Gordon Bowling Obituary

Gordon Kyle Bowling (71) died peacefully Sunday October 16, 2016 at 4:15 p.m. at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte, NC. His death was due to organ and heart failure, caused by a recent diagnosis of stomach cancer.

He is survived by his lovely wife of 38 years Adrienne Bowling, his two beautiful daughters, Allison Elizalde (husband Jose) of Charlotte, NC and Ashley Andres (husband Logan) of Indian Trail, NC, his sister Freeda Shelton (Bowling) in Ridgeway, VA, brother Harlow Bowling in Ridgeway, VA, and five crazy grandsons he truly adored each and everyday: Blake (16), Brandon (10), Kade (10), Keaton (7), and Jayden (6). Plus many extended family and friends from his years at Mars Hill College (1964-1968), the Army (1969-1971), working as a postman for the United States Postal Service, teaching Drivers Education for Jordan Driving School, and his many trips to the local Harris Teeter. He was a member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church and enjoyed his fellowship. Gordon rarely met a stranger.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday October 22, 2016, immediately followed by funeral service at 12 p.m., at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church (2817 Mt Harmony Church Road, Matthews NC, 28105).

He will be laid to rest at Shiloh ARP Church Cemetery in Lancaster, SC. Per Gordon's wishes he will be cremated prior to visitation and burial. In lieu of flowers, please make donations directly to Adrienne Bowling through McEwen Funeral Service (7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Rd, Charlotte, NC 28227). Donations will be applied towards 24/7 assisted living care.

There are no words perfect enough to describe Gordon's life, so we will leave you with a few words from his oldest grandson, Blake Elizalde: "He was the toughest, kindest, and most honest person I have ever known. He taught me how to drive and how to be a better man, and for that I will be forever grateful. He was one of those old school grandpas who would never cry, always say what's on his mind, and treated every penny like it was his last. Today was my birthday (October 16th) and it's really tough, but the greatest gift he gave me was believing in me. Please pray for my family, my grandma, and please pray that God gives me enough strength to get myself and my family through this difficult time. Thank you grandpa for everything. I'll love and miss you everyday." 'Potts' We love and miss you.
