Hermene Hill Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 22, 2015.
Sister Hermene Davis Hill was born on December 1, 1954 in Austin, Texas to Mr. Riley Davis, Sr. and Mrs. Winnie Rachel Whitfield Davis, of whom preceded her in death. She grew up in Austin, Texas and graduated from L. C. Anderson High School on May 28, 1975.

She had her career in Food Services with Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, (DARS). She enjoyed preparing beautiful and delicious salads for clients, until her illness caused her to prepare for retirement, to the regret of her employers and co-workers who would truly miss her. Many of the staff and clients would come just for the salad bar; she was known as the "Queen of Salads". On October 1, 2011, she retired after 29-plus years of successful service, with a plaque from Representative Kirk Watson, accompanied by a Texas Flag that was flown above the sovereign State of Texas Capital on October 17, 2011.

Sister Hermene accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior after hearing the Gospel preached by the late Bishop Roland James Allen on August 8, 1978, and she continued to serve the Lord under the leadership and guidance of Bishop Eddie E. Willis, Sr. After receiving salvation, she was baptized on August 13, 1978. Then, on August 14, 1978, she was united in holy matrimony to her childhood sweet-heart Brother Lorenzo Carnel Hill, Sr., who had also accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. To this union was born Cheri Evon Hill, Elizabeth Ann Hill and Lorenzo Carnel Hill, Jr. She loved her husband dearly and he was known as "Honey". She was a tender, loving and caring mother to all her children, and a grandmother of seven grandchildren, who called her "Mema", and whom she cared for as her own children.

Sister Hermene humbly submitted in her service to the Lord, and was a very quiet and caring person to everyone she knew. During her thirty-seven years of living for Christ, she was a faithful member of the New Covenant Church Choir; and on occasion she would lead the Choir in singing, "I Have Decided To Make Jesus My Choice". Throughout all her sicknesses she faithfully attended Church services as her illness permitted.

Sister Hermene Hill entered into eternal rest on November 20, 2015.

She will be best remembered for her MEEK AND HUMBLE SPIRIT, and who always had a special warm smile and a good word to say even through her tribulations and illnesses.

She leaves to cherish fond memories of her life to her beloved husband of thirty-seven years: Lorenzo Carnel Hill, Sr.; Two Daughters, Cheri Evon Parker, and her husband, Keith Parker; and Elizabeth Ann Hill; Her Son, Lorenzo Carnel Hill, Jr; Two Brothers, Mr. Riley Davis, Jr. and Mr. John L. Davis and his wife, Edna Beatrice Davis. Seven Grandchildren, Ariyon Evon Parker, Kaedon Keith Parker, Ceirra Rose Parker, Ariyah Houston, Anejia Hill, Treavon Hill-Chandler, Tavion Hill-Chandler, all of Austin, Texas and a Host of Relatives, Friends and Co-Workers as well as her New Covenant Church Family.

Hermene held a special place in my heart. She always had a smile and a hug to share. I worked at Criss Cole for 18 years where Hermene shared her special love of cooking for the clients. Sympathies for her family. May God bless each and every one, and give you peace and comfort.

I had the pleasure of working with Hermene for 19 years. Her smile could turn anyone's bad day into one of joy. She was a caring and loving person and I never heard one harsh word come out of her mouth. She had a positive word for each and every one of us. The world was a better place for Hermene having been in it.

Mr. Hill, Zo, and family -

Robert, Olive, and I will think of Mrs. Hill's smile and remember her fondly each time we water our trees, get the mail, jump in after-rain puddles on the driveway...anytime, really. She was a beautiful woman with a genuinely kind heart; we are so lucky to have known her.
