JOHN DONALD STRUCKER passed away suddenly at his home on May 31, 2022. He was born in 1945 in Orange, NJ, to educators Margaret Trimble and John F. Strucker. From an early age, John had a deep curiosity about the world around him. At age two he wanted to go to school, so his mother gave him...

Not sure what to say?

So sad to hear this news. John was a warm and encouraging teacher. He was a member of my dissertation committee, always a source of encouragement and guidance. He will always be a part of my memories of learning and teaching in the little blue house on campus... my deepest condolences to John's family.

John is one of the legends of adult literacy research. I am shaken by the news. I am upset that I will no longer be able to influenced by his joyful demeanor, voice of reason, and volumes of wisdom. I cannot believe that he will no longer be one of my "go to's" when I have a pressing question. His dedication to adult learners, sound research, and belief in the future of the field will always be remembered by me. Although he is "physically" gone, his impact on me and others will continue to...

So sorry to hear of John's loss. He was a brilliant man who was always willing to help others. It reminds us that life is fragile, and we need to make the most of it. Thanks John for your positive influence on my life.

I had the privilege of attending Trenton High with John. Last memory was in 1962 when we played touch football in Harvard Yard after the Dartmouth- Harvard football game. May John rest in peace.

I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. He was so generous with his time and his knowledge. It has been and will continue to be greatly appreciated. Many condolences to all of his family and extended family. Thinking of you all!

I didn't know John well, but learned so much from his work that helps me every day in the classroom! Rest in Peace.

l had the distinct privilege of developing my reading teaching strategies as an adult educator by being able to work with Dr. Strucker over three years time. The knowledge that I gained and the passion that more fully developed for the struggling adult learner over those years transformed my life and the lives of the staff and students with whom I engaged. Dr. Strucker is one of my favorite teachers and I speak of him often. His loss is a loss for mankind. Rest in peace dear sir. You will...

I met John years ago, not long after I became the director of a small nonprofit. My staff and I participated in a reading impact study led by John. He was a true gentleman, speaking from the heart and his passion for education was tangible. The world of adult ed was fortunate to have him and the world lost a true light in this world. May wonderful memories support his family during this time.

I learned a lot from John. He will be missed.
