Julia Moseley Obituary

Julia Elizabeth Moffet Moseley, age 91, of Houston, Texas passed away peacefully on Saturday April 7, 2018 at home with her devoted husband of 57 years at her side.

Julia was born July 22, 1926 in Springfield, Illinois, the only daughter of the late Everett and Elizabeth (Kennedy) Moffet. After finishing high school early, she continued her education at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL. She then moved to St. Louis to attend Washington University where she was a proud graduate and a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. Pursuing her dream of travel, she accepted teaching positions in both Germany and Venezuela. This was an unusual venture for a young single lady to travel abroad independently.

While working in Venezuela, she met Neal whom she married on January 21,1961 in Trinidad and they honeymooned in Tobago and Barbados. After a short time living in Bolivia they returned to Venezuela to start a family. They welcomed their first daughter in 1964 and their second daughter followed shortly in 1966. Upon returning to the United States, they made their home in Oklahoma City and Houston where she resigned from teaching to raise the two girls. She truly instilled in her daughters the importance of a good education. As the girls were growing up she enjoyed being a Girl Scout Leader, volunteering at school and playing bridge.

Upon her husband's retirement, they were able to pursue their passion of travel taking numerous trips, including a once in a lifetime cruise around the world. They were fortunate enough to travel to six continents. When not traveling they enjoyed volunteering with Meals on Wheels. Growing up in Illinois, she always had strong ties to the Moffet family farm. After her parent's death, she took a more active role in managing and overseeing the responsibility of a working farm.

Julia will be greatly missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts and memories of all who knew her. She was a very caring, loving and genuine woman whose generosity knew no bounds.

Julia is survived by her husband Neal; daughter Susan Green (husband Tim) of Bolling AFB, DC and Sarah Hammer (husband Mike) of The Woodlands, Texas; four grandchildren, Andrew Green of Orlando, Florida, Rachel Green of West Palm Beach, Florida, Emily Hammer of Boston, Massachusetts and Ethan Hammer of The Woodlands, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents Everett (1969) and Elizabeth (1986); many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00pm Sunday April 22, 2018 at Waverly East Cemetery in Illinois. A memorial service will take place in Houston April 29, 2018 at 3:00pm at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home and Cemetery 18000 Interstate 45S The Woodlands, Texas 77384 with a reception immediately following to greet the family.
