Julius Tauber Obituary

Julius W. Tauber, Jr., known to everyone as "Junior", passed away peacefully On Monday, November 23, 2015 at 91 years of age. He was born on September 15, 1924 in Baltimore, MD, son to Julius and Josephine Tauber, being the youngest and last survivor of his siblings, brother John and sister Josephine. He grew up in Halethorpe and Graduated from Mount Saint Joe High School in 1942. He served in the Army in World War II with the 78th Lightning Division 311th Regiment. During his time spent in the military he was involved in one hundred and thirty days of continuous combat at the Hurtgen Forest, the Siegfried Line, and the Battle of the Bulge. Their Regiment was the first across the Rhine River at the town of Remagen, the 311th captured over 17,000 prisoners and 354 Towns and were awarded two Presidential Unit Citations. After the war, Junior took over his aunt and uncles garage and gas station that was started about 1930 known back then as Tauber's Amoco. In the late 1940's, he became involved in Nascar Racing and raced until 1954 with his biggest win in the Spring Championship at Westport Stadium in 1953.The gas station and towing service continued on with his wife, Virginia Tauber, doing the book work and even pumping gas. In the 1970's, their son, Michael Tauber, became involved in the business and by 1985, the gas was phased out and it became a Towing Company known as Tauber's Service, Inc., still operating today. Junior semi-retired at the age of 65, but continued driving a tow truck until 85 years of age and was still at the shop almost every day until a couple of months ago. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Smith Tauber, married 66 years; son, Michael J. Tauber and his wife Sharon, granddaughter Ashley Pevo and husband Drew, granddaughter Kaitlyn Tauber, a step-grandson Michael Lichtenberg and his wife Melanie, and 3 great-grandchildren; Ava, Autumn and Lacey. Julius Tauber was a man that was loved by his family and the Linthicum community. He will be greatly missed by all. May he rest in peace. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park, Inc., 7250 Washington Boulevard, Elkridge, MD 21075 (exit 6 off Rt. 100) on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm where Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 30, 2015 at 10:00 am. Mrs. Tauber, Michael & family I am very sorry to hear of Juniors passing. Your are in my thoughts at this difficult time. Junior was a pleasure to be around. When I worked for the company he used to call me "30 weight" because my name is Kendall like the motor oil, and each time he would laugh. May time ease your pain and you cherish the memories of the life you had together.

I first met the Tauber family in 1968 when I rented an apartment next door, the first year of my 46 years living in Maryland. Junior was always very kind and accommodating to me, letting me use his lift, his welder, his work bench. I loved his tire changer. In the late '60s I marveled at his home made tow trucks which were the beginnings of his large towing enterprise. The last time I was there I took the picture in the photo gallery and noted that Michael had just turned 60, I had just turned 70, and Junior had just turned 90. By that time he was using a walker due to balance problems but that didn't dampen his spirit. I saw him use the walker to get to his truck, get in, and tow his trailer to an event. He never lost his smile and the laughter in his voice, always looking forward to what the day would bring. We can all learn a lot from this man. We are far richer for knowing him.

THE TAUBER FAMILY
Our GOD Lord and Saviour only picks the best flowers for His garden and our Mr. Tauber" was the best! He has been in our lives and watched us grow and become adults. John Marine (dec.2008) was one of his best friends for many years there is so much I could say and I'm sure the family knows how full my heart is at this time.
I ask for God's blessing for you all during this time and know that God is watching over you as he shelters you during this time and always.

I worked for Junior when I got out of the service, he was undoubtedly one of the nicest persons that I knew. A super nice person to everyone. It was my pleasure to know Junior, and my life has been better for it. We were Mt St Joe alumni. Ed Durivage.

Jr. was often called to the scene of accidents I investigated back in the early 60s. Great guy - he was always ready to lend a helping hand when we had to ready the MSP car we drove for the Colonel's Inspection. I stopped in the station a couple of years ago - it was great to see him. My deepest condolences to the family. He was a class act.

He was a good man and a Linthicum icon. Growing up I would gasp at the crashed cars he set in front of the small station. I didn't know him well but will miss seeing him. My condolences to your family.
