Katherine McCutcheon Obituary

Katherine Sarah McCutcheon, world traveler and Lake Anna retiree, passed away on March 26, 2019, at the age of 78. She left this world in the loving grace and presence of family.
She is preceded in death by her loving parents, Martin and Arletha Knanishu; and dear sister, Carole Knanishu.
She is survived by her devoted husband, William McCutcheon; children, Elizabeth Dillon and Sandra McCutcheon; adoring grandchildren, Keleigh Dillon and William Gillespie; siblings, Sallie Knanishu and Martin Knanishu; and nieces and nephews, Leslie Berg, Martin Olsen, David Olsen and Luke Knanishu.
Katherine was born in Rock Island, Illinois on Aug. 5, 1940. She attended Rock Island High School and Augustana College, in Rock Island. After graduating college, Katherine set off to explore the United States before joining the Central Intelligence Agency in 1964 to travel the world. From Casablanca to Paris, from Ouagadougou to Frankfurt, she deeply loved what the world had to offer and lived an amazingly full life before retiring to become a full-time grandmother.
She will be deeply missed, but always remembered for her mischievous sense of humor, the care and attention she gave to every detail and to everyone fortunate to have known her.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in her honor this summer.

Kathy and I were best of friends thru Washington Middle, and Rock Island high school AND Augustana College. Though we went different ways after graduation we ALWAYS stayed in touch through "snail mail, phone call, and more recently including email and texts. Needless to say I miss her terribly and she is always in my prayers! We would walk home from school together, stop for ice cream cone, sometimes stopping at my Aunt Helen´s house and rest on her porch swing-Aunt Helen would go across the street and buy us Root Beer Floats from A and W Root Beer Stand. Many times we would walk to the Rick z island Library downtown and do our studies in a quiet area called "The Stacks". Many times we would have sleepovers at each others home(she lived across the street from Saukie Golf Course (where we made a little money finding lost golf balls). Or she would come to my house for a sleepover overnight, (she always looked forward to my Mom´s Greek cooking). We lived in a neighborhood that had many young families with kids our age so we rode bikes, played pick-up baseball, rode to nearby Lincoln Park playing on swings and slides and monkey bars or playing tennis at the courts there! So many sweet times and memories but too much to include here! Rest in peace my dear friend and as my Dad used to say "I´ll see you when I see you"!!!

Kathy and I have been friends since 7th grade-going to Washington Jr High, Rock Island Hugh School, And Augustana College where we both pledged COG Sorority. We had sleepovers at each other's homes, studied in RI Library then took ferry boat across Mississippi River to my Dads restaurant for dinner, visited her Dad at the Arsenal Click Tower where he worked, got in trouble together, shopped together, rode bikes, traveled together and oh so many more memories. Rest In Peace my dear friend, until we meet again-and probably cause more havoc! Love you! Dena
