Kendrick Morrison Obituary

A loving and devoted son and brother was translated into the presence of the Lord on Thursday, May 24, 2012. He was 37 and a native of Baker, LA and a resident of Atlanta, GA. Kendrick Ikeith Jermaine Morrison, was the youngest twin (sister, Kenyatta Ikeda Charmaine Morrison) born to Clayton and Linda Morrison on February 15, 1975 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He and his sister received Christ together at Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church in Slaughter, Louisiana during their early years. He was "born again" and a true believer in God's Grace. Kendrick often shared his beliefs with others to help them understand the blessings of the Lord. Visitation at Rabenhorst East Funeral Home 11000 Florida Blvd. on Friday, June 1 , 2012 at 5 p.m. with a memorial service from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Visitation will resume at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 185 Eddie Robinson Sr. Drive on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 10 a.m. until funeral service at 11 a.m. Kendrick was a graduate of Catholic High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, attended Louisiana Tech University, and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota. Being very interested in furthering his education, Kendrick earned master degrees from Georgia Tech University, and Columbia University. Sadly, on the day of his passing, his family learned that he was accepted to a graduate program at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. Kendrick started his career as a creative coordinator with Ralph Lauren, then moved on to work in construction management and real estate development before recently starting his own real estate development consulting firm, The Knox Clayton Group, LLC. Kendrick was a lifetime member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and the first Black Homecoming King at the University of Minnesota. Kendrick traveled extensively nationally and internationally to exciting and historic cities such as London, Paris, Nice, Cannes, Florence, and Tokyo, as well as choosing to experience life in many cities including Minneapolis, Atlanta, New York, and Washington, D.C. with plans of moving to Chicago or Malibu. Kendrick was an active member of the Buckhead Church (Northpoint Ministries) pastored by Rev. Andy Stanley in Atlanta, GA. He was also actively involved in Leadership Ministries (TABAR). His many friends would tell you that he was caring, inspirational, lovable, debonair and always helping others to fulfill their dreams as he was a true "dreamer" about the great things life had to offer. He was extraordinary in so many ways and everything any parent, sister or friend could ever wish for. Kendrick is survived by his twin sister, Kenyatta Morrison, his father, Clayton Morrison, his mother, Linda Morrison; seven aunts: Carol Douglas (Robert) , Patricia Aikens (Gary), Geraldine "Rita" Clinton, Johnnie Ruth Morrison, Velma Morrison, Carolyn Howard (Thomas), Patricia Celestine (Robert); eight uncles: Ison Gransberry, Jr. Farris Gransberry, Sr. (Yolanda), Kenneth Gransberry (Jennifer), Larry Gransberry (YuFeng), Raymond Gray, Oscar Haney, Lloyd Morrison (Alline), Ezane Morrison (Lynn) , special friend Suma Rani Scroggins and many, many cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Idell and Ida Morrison, Louise Virginia McGarity Gransberry, Ison Gransberry, Sr., Johnny and Mittie Morrison.

Clayton, Linda, Kenyatta, Carol, Farris, Faye, Larry, and Rita, I hope you all remember me. I am a family friend from 30 years ago. I just learned of Kendrick's death this morning. Your thank you note to Shiloh was published in our church bulletin. My heart was deeply saddened when I read it. In fact, I had to read the note again because I could not believe what I was reading. It's been many, many years since I last saw Kendrick and Kenyatta. However, it is obvious from the obituary that Kendrick became an extraordinary young man. Thank God for the life he lived. I am so sorry for your loss and will lift your entire family in prayer.

I am blessed to call Kendrick a friend in college and a brother at Sigma Chi. His singular and generous spirit will continue to resonate through the lives he impacted. You couldn't know Kendrick without being better for it. I thank the Morrison family for sharing Kendrick with the world. Rest in love, brother.

I first want to extend my deepest sympathy to the family, I worked along with Kendrick for many years at Ralph Lauren,I remember how intimidated I felt the first few months ,it was kendrick that helped me gain the confidence to become a top seller of R L home collection and furniture, he was a supportive friend as I struggled through my divorce raising two teenage boys and for that I have always loved him, we have truly lost a great man of integrity, and im so greatful to be graced by his presance in my life even if it was just for that little while. Rest in peace now my friend ,your job here on earth was well done, I love you,I thank you.

What I am most grateful for is how we were there for each other during what most would consider the "valleys of life" and the drive we took one Christmas from Atlanta to Baton Rouge; I listened to his greatest hopes and dreams. As I reflect on losing a close friend, it gives me joy to learn that he died persevering and "running" towards his destiny. Kendrick Morrison: I'm so honored to have known your heart and served alongside you in the City of Atlanta. You will forever be missed. ? Kimmie

Until we meet again, guard us well.

Kenyatta, I will always remember the first day I met you and Kendrick at E.S.I back in 19-blah, blah, blah.... I remember thinking at the time that this brother has got the biggest smile I had ever seen. As time went on I got to know not only you but Kendrick and his big smile. His presence made all of those conventions, dances, and cotillions so much fun. If Kendrick couldn't make you smile then only God can help you. Kenyatta, my heart go out to you and your family. His passing is a huge loss to the world. Kendrick was a beautiful person with a beautiful spirit. He will truly be missed. I know I will never forget him.... and the girl with the wrapping paper on her bottom.... Kendrick would remember.

My prayers and thoughts go out to all of the family during this difficult time. I had the wonderful pleasure of Kendrick blessing my life in so many ways over our 7 year friendship. Forged from a relationship that emanated as my intern at Turner Construction; it grew into what I proudly qualify as he being one of my best friends. No doubt, he was a magnet, and core to many of us making new friends by and through him. Understanding the virtues instilled as a Sigma Chi brother, he exemplified all of them. Lending me his ear and advice – I as his “self-proclaimed” mentor, often turned mentee; for he would always lend me his ear, offer his advice and refocus my spiritual shortcomings - even introducing me to Buckhead Church, in fact (now we didn't always agree on things as he could almost be as head strong as myself, but rest assured, it always led to some healthy brotherly debates - especially during football season as a rival Gator of course). A good friend to my son Benjamin as well, we will miss all of what he shared. Our crossing in life was no mishap and I will continue to honor our friendship throughout my life. What a great blessing, gentleman, brother and genuine friend he will always remain to me.

In hoc signo vinces…you have conquered in HIS sign, my friend.

Morrison Family,
Kendrick was a strong Christian man who was loved by an incredibly diverse a group of friends. The many ways one could describe Kendrick's talents and gifts could not be contained in this brief note of sympathy. Kendrick did not leave this world unchanged - he made a positive difference in so many lives. You could not help but be drawn in by his charisma and admire his drive to make the world a better place. I pray that God will bless and comfort you.
