Kevin Beville Obituary

Kevin Matthew Beville NORFOLK - On Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, Kevin Matthew Beville, 23, of Norfolk and formerly of Newport News, entered heaven. He was the beloved and treasured son of retired U.S. Army Reserve Lt. Col. Stanley David Beville of Centreville, Va., and retired U.S. Army Col. Jody Lynne Draves of Key West, Fla., and formerly of Newport News; loving brother of Michael Jonathan Beville of Centreville, and U.S. Army Pfc. Patrick Anthony Beville, 1-14th CAV, 3rd BDE, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Wash.; best friend of Tiger Puffin'Stuff Snowball Beville: adored grandson of Patricia Ann Leich of Edenton, N.C., Patricia Ann Faircloth of Gainesville, Fla., and Kenneth Melvin Beville Sr. of Roberta, Ga.; and cherished nephew, cousin, and friend. Kevin was born in an Army hospital in the Republic of Panama. He loved nature, travel, animals, and everyone he met. He earned an associate degree in biology from Thomas Nelson Community College in Hampton, and was a junior at Old Dominion University in Norfolk where he was studying biology and archaeology. He overcame many challenges in life and left his positive imprint on everything he touched. Kevin loved spending his free time passionately involved in favorite hobby activities: relic hunting, fishing, gold-panning, skateboarding, cooking, baseball, soccer, golf, camping, searching for critters, enjoying the outdoors, his dog, and the friends and family he loved. We will miss his gently nature and his loving concern for all animals and all people, and we will cherish forever our memories. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA 23666, with a celebration of Kevin's life to immediately follow at 2 p.m. officiated by Chaplain (Colonel) Rick Garrison. Memorial contributions can be made to the environmental or animal charity of your choice. Friends are encouraged to visit www.parklawn- woodfh.com to share memories and words of condolence with the family.

Dearest Jody,
John, Michael, and I wish to express our deepest condolences. Our son Michael was thinking of Kevin and wanted to facebook him and saw that he has passed. Michael phoned us immediately knowing that we would want to know you had suffered a loss. We loved Kevin like our own and I will remember your family with the fondest of memories. He was such a friend to our Michael and we loved him. I pray you are able to take some solace in knowing how much Kevin meant to so many people. We put out the nutcracker every year you picked up for us. God bless your family and keep you.
Very Truly, Melanie, John, and Michael Steinmetz, Burke, Va.

For Kevin

I weep –
Not for Kevin
Or those he left behind
But, for myself
For his untimely departure
From our small world.

There was no last viewing
So I might touch him
One last time
So I weep until I can smile.

There was no funeral march
So I might join in
Adding a flower
To an already lifeless pile;
When we all would have laid him to rest
So I weep though I remember his smile.

My memory of Kevin –
His impish grin,
His curly locks of hair,
His sometimes serious, and furrowed brow.

He’s watching me
So even though I weep
I know I soon must smile.

What an awesome guy! A really inspiring person. I'll always remember him showing me his collection of relics, these incredible arrowheads, bottles and all kinds of things he found. He had accomplished so much research on his finds, flipping through books and showing me with this real excitement as he described these things that were way above my understanding. Or the photos of huge fish he would catch that Jody would show off at work. So much fun. You will be missed by many, but thank you for what you gave to your family and friends.
