Kevin Grady Obituary

KEVIN MICHAEL GRADY, 54, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at his home unexpectedly from an apparent heart attack. Born Nov. 10, 1954, in Fort Wayne, he graduated from Concordia Lutheran High School. He was a licensed hair designer and certified massage therapist at the Hair Shoppe on Broadway with his longtime business partner and friend, Marvin Auker. He was the founding board member of the Aboite Feline Sanctuary and Adoption Center. His tenderheartedness for all of God's creatures led Kevin to rescue and provide loving care for many stray cats. (Word of his kindness seemed to pass quickly among the feline population). He was the beloved brother of Sharon Grady of Madison, Wis., Marcia Brandt of Mt. Prospect, Ill. and Kathy (Steven) Strycker of Wolcottville, Ind.; his dear companion of 23 years, Ronald Muckway; Aunt Kay (Gertrude Leas); many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral service is 5 p.m. Sunday at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., with calling from 1 to 5 p.m. The Rev. Mary Wood of Unity Christ Church officiating. Memorials may be sent to the Aboite Feline Sanctuary and Adoption Center, Contributions, PO Box 475, Roanoke, IN 46783 or Unity Christ Church, 3232 Crescent Ave., Fort Wayne, IN 46845. To Kevin's Family and Ron:

Total shock to pick up the paper and read that Kevin is no longer here. Just saw the both of you at Meijer a month or two ago. I remember asking Kevin what was up with the cages, and he explained you were adopting cats. How wonderful! Will never forget the times at the Hair Shop with Marvin, Kay and Sherry. Many a good times were had. And I even let Kevin cut my hair a couple of times. Not many people were granted that privelage outside of Kay. Sorry Marvin. Kevin, you will truly be missed by all.

Kevin will always be remembered as a soft-spoken, gentle soul with a ready smile and tender heart. His love for his partner, Ron, his business partner, Marvin, his clients, his family, and (of course) his feline family was always evident. He will be greatly missed and we will cherish his memory. I only knew him as a customer at the beauty supply store, but his openness and friendliness let us get to know him. He will be missed more than any of us can imagine. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dear Ron, My deepest sympathy. I still can't believe it.Kevin's records would tell, but I think he cut and styled my hair for over thirty-five years. i never went to anyone else because he was so talented and such a dear, kind person. I, too, loved to talk about gardening and the kitties and cats. We have Oreo, Clarence and Midnight as a tangible reminder Of yours and his compassion and kindness. My prayers are with you and all who loved Kevin. Jeanette

I am so sorry for your loss. Kevin was such a humble servant to all those he touched. I enjoyed his quiet sense of humor and all our discussions on gardening. I'm sure he is with his mother in a most beautiful garden.
