Linda Hovland Eulogy by Alan Hovland Dec. 2, 2017
By now You have seen our wonderful life by Valeries beautiful video! Thank you Valerie! Thank you all for being here today!
When I say you all I mean Linda's MOM AND DAD, brothers and sisters, Aunt Katie, and Ken and Sue, EXTENDED FAMILY, AND MANY FRIENDS. Plus caregivers, nurses, doctors, therapists, Willowbrook Memory Care Staff, and so many others!

Linda and I were married for 50 years, five months and one day. First of all, I want to say that Linda really was a great wife!
Why? Many Reasons: Linda had an abundant enthusiasm for life and tremendous love for her family. HER really lasting memory was her very infectious smile! So many people have commented on that! And as today's memory card says under the Afterglow Poem I'd like to leave you with an afterglow SMILE when life is done.

Linda was the sweetest gal SHE never said a bad thing about anybody. She had very strong motherly instincts - She raised two great kids! And I only helped a little bit :-)
She was also known for her interior design abilities-She was really GOOD at it! She was a great writer! Including over 30 articles for home and boating magazines. Also she carefully edited Valerie's high school papers Linda really enjoyed sailing with me, building new houses, playing the piano, and reading Shakespeare.
And did you know-- I can't remember her EVER crying! She was so strong. At least until Alzheimer's.But actually she was strong then too. She survived seizures, sepsis, and learning to walk again!
Linda and I wanted to see the world before we got too old. And we did! We had a few goals lined up when we got married. They were to raise two children, get Linda her bachelor's degree, have a nice home, take yearly sailing vacations, and to live on an island. And I'd like to tell you we really did accomplish them! THEY WERE accomplished with lots of love, good planning, and a lot of luck. But most of all it happened with some help from two really great families -- Glenn and Doris Adams family and the Roger and Esther Hovland family. A lot more people helped as you can see here today! The only goal that we didn't complete was to live on an island. Well we took plenty of boating trips!
What I'll miss most is Linda's intense love for her family, our children, and also me! SHE ALWAYS KNEW WHEN SOMEONE (ESPECIALLY HER KIDS) NEEDED TO TALK TO HER ABOUT THEIR PROBLEMS.
In summary, Linda was the best person and wife that I could ever have! I loved her so much! Thank you all for caring about Linda!

Please remember Linda for whatever smiling face (or ray of sunshine) that she gave to you.

Thank you for coming today!

LOVE AND PEACE BE WITH YOU,
Alan

My heartfelt sympathies go out to family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise found in 1 Thessalonians 4 : 14 can bring some comfort. Knowing that there is a future for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.

Please accept my sincere condolences dear family and friends. May prayers strengthen you and memories comfort you. And may you find hope and comfort in God our Father, who loves us, comfort your hearts and "make you firm". (2 Thessalonians 2:16, 17)

I have known Linda all my life and she was my best buddie. We laughed, cried, ruminated the world problems, took care of each other when the other was down and sang hallelujah for our respective triumphs. This was a long haul for her and although I feel empty without her I am so glad she is finally free from this devastating disease. Losing her though is as elemental as losing the rain but today it is raining which causes me to reflect on the fact that she is not really gone and as long as I am here, so is she. This brings me great solace. Blessings and grace Linda for the next part of your journey. Love you so much <3

Linda was a fabulous friend for years and we miss her and our super fun times together. We loved going to visit her and Alan and she was so entertaining and fun. Great memories of her loving stories of her children and family. What a wonderful person for the world. So sorry for her to be gone Alan, Chris, Valerie and her parents and the rest of the family. You were all so lucky to have her in your life. She had such a beautiful smiling face.

While we did not get to know Linda personally, we felt her spirit and creativity through you, Al. The many life stories that you shared with us of your life adventures with Linda and the kids warm our hearts and give us a vivid idea of just how special she was.

Al, Gary and I hold you and your family close to our hearts during this difficult time and wish you comfort and peace as you begin this new phase of grief. Imagine, standing on the shore, watching loved ones set sail on an ocean journey. Great joy and celebration will welcome them on the other side.

I remember Linda always greeting me with a smile and a laugh. She would ask how my family and I were doing every time I saw her.
I had shown her a print I bought at an art festival and she kindly had it framed for me as a gift, picking out all the artsy details herself. She always thought of others. I am blessed to have known her and I will miss her.
