Lois Ann Cook,76, of New Castle, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 24, 2025, at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born on August 22, 1949, in Monterey, Tennessee, the daughter of the late J.T. and Juanita (Lowhorn) Vaughn.
Lois was a 1967 graduate of Walter P. Chrysler Memorial High School and went on to attend Indiana Business College. Over the years, she held several meaningful positions that reflected her strong work ethic and love for people. She worked as a fashion consultant at Futuristic Beauty Salon, in the office and sales division at Myers Furniture and Appliance, where she proudly became one of the first women to serve as a sales associate on the floor and later with the State of Indiana Tax Board and the Henry County Auditor's Office as an administrative assistant. While working her full-time jobs, Lois worked part-time for Walmart for 19 years.
Beyond her career, Lois's greatest joy came from her family and friends. She deeply loved her grandson, Jimmy. She also enjoyed traveling, shopping, and celebrating life's milestones with her close circle of friends. Her favorite color was yellow, and she especially loved sunflowers, which reflected her warm and cheerful spirit.
Lois was an active member of the American Business Women's Association (ABWA) and could often be found working as a ticket taker at New Castle basketball games, where she enjoyed connecting with her community.
She is survived by her daughter, Melissa (Jim) Jeffries of New Castle; grandson, Jimmy Jeffries of New Castle; sister, Janet Mitchell of New Market, Tennessee; nephew, Jamin Vaughn of New Castle; aunt, Clara Craft of New Castle; and several close cousins.
In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her nephew, Larry Mitchell, along with several aunts and uncles.
