Lydia M. Moore
(May 15, 1936 - October 30, 2025)
Lydia M. Moore died peacefully Thursday, October 30th, after a short illness at Powell Valley Healthcare.
One evening, Lydia “accidentally” tripped a young man and captured his heart. She and Richard Moore were married June 4th, 1955. For 60 years they worked side by side tending their farm on the Willwood where Lydia continued to make her home for more than 69 years.
Lydia poured her love into her yard and flower beds and delighted in feeding the wild birds. She was renowned for her stunning blooms. Each May, she embarked on an eagerly anticipated pilgrimage with family and friends, visiting every greenhouse between Powell and Billings until every vehicle brimmed with plants. As the gardens rested in winter, she found joy in watching the birds flock to her feeders.
Lydia is survived by her sister, Arlene (Harland) Goodchild of Powell; brother Gary D. Spomer of Greybull; brother-in-law, Clifford Moore of Vashon, WA; sisters-in-law, Nancy Spomer of Cody and Brooke Moore of New Windsor, NY; daughters, Katherine (Cam) Henrichsen of Worland; Kimberly (Troy) Curtis and Sherri (Larry) Simpson of Powell; son Gene (Irene) Moore of Gillette; 11 grandchildren and 11 (soon to be 12) great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Moore; brothers Reuben and Ronald Spomer; sister and brother-in-law Sharon and Vernon Riley; brothers-in-law Russell and Lawrence Moore; and sister-in-law, Betsy Moore.
A family viewing will be Thursday, November 13th, from 6-7:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home.
A service celebrating Lydia’s life will be held Friday, November 14th, at 10:00 a.m. at the United Church of Powell (former Presbyterian Church), with interment following at the Powell Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Caring for Powell Animals (P.O. Box 504) or the Powell Senior Center (P.O. Box 1156) both in Powell, WY 82435.
