Margaret Pashby Obituary

MARGARET MUNSELL ELLINGTON PASHBY, 94 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Margaret Munsell Ellington Pashby, 94, passed away in Colorado Springs on Monday, March 18, 2013, after a brief illness. She is now doing what she loved most: singing in the heavenly choir for her Lord! Margaret (Marge) was born in Springfield, Ill. on October 29, 1918, to Emma Munsell Bullard Ellington and Charles Clark Ellington Jr. She attended schools in Buffalo, Bloomington, and Jacksonville, Ill. As a high school student she took piano lessons at Illinois Wesleyan University and sang in adult choirs in church. She attended MacMurray College and later studied voice privately. Marge enjoyed her young adult years involved in music, working in Chicago, and traveling frequently to Colorado Springs to visit extended family and her beloved mountains. In 1948 she met and married Robert (Bob) Welch Pashby in Evanston, IL and then moved to Freeport, Ill. In Freeport, Marge continued her involvement in music, church, and community activities. She sang in her church choir, at weddings, and in local musical theater productions, was ordained a deacon in the First Presbyterian Church, joined P.E.O., the Amity League, and was on the Freeport Hospital Auxiliary. While in Freeport, they enjoyed many happy times with their children, Clark and Barbara, and a host of friends. The family traveled extensively during summer vacations. One favorite destination continued to be Colorado Springs, so it was no surprise when Marge and Bob chose Colorado Springs for their retirement in 1974. They both continued their involvements in local activities and their new church home, First Presbyterian Church. Marge was in local and national organizations along with those mentioned above: the Portia Club, Assistance League, DAR, Daughters of the Nile, and Honored Ladies, to name a few. Bob passed away in 1989. Marge is survived by her children, Clark Pashby (Chris) of Midland, MI and Barbara Jack (Victor) of Colorado Springs and their children, Stephanie Armes (Brian), Alicia Pashby, Aleena and Carl Jack. Also surviving is a special cousin, Fran Mangan of Colorado Springs. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Gateway Presbyterian Church, 731 Castle Rd, Colorado Springs, at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 28. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Pikes Peak Hospice Foundation, 2550 Tenderfoot Hill Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80906 or First Presbyterian Church, 219 East Bijou Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.

What an amazing, always-smiling and happy friend. She was a lady through and through and could be counted on to help in any way she could. The Assistance League benefited enormously from her active membership.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Marge, she will be greatly missed. She was blessed with the "extra strength" the Psalmist spoke of at Psalms 90:10 to live such a very long life. May you treasure your memories of her as you receive comfort from God during this time of sorrow.

What a special friend I cared for and spent 2 months with, but will cherish in my heart forever. I was blessed to know her, & to get to know her family and life, via wonderful stories and anecdotes. Miss you, Miss Marge xo
