Marian Kubler Obituary

Marian Viola (Johnson) Kubler Age 96, Marian went home to be with the Lord on August 14, 2010 in St. Johns, MI. She was born December 11, 1913 in LeRoy, MI to Victor and Olga (Shostrom) Johnson. She moved to the Lansing area in October of 1939 and was a resident of the area until her death. She was a graduate of Leroy High School. Throughout her life she enjoyed many and varied interests, including travel both domestic and foreign, which took her to Europe and Asia. She visited every state in the union other than Alaska and Hawaii. She also enjoyed gardening, crafts, games and competitions. Reading and learning were lifelong pursuits with deep-sea articles being a favorite. At age 75 she enjoyed a hot air balloon ride; at age 85 she celebrated her birthday in Paris, France with members of her family; at age 90 she enjoyed a big open house in celebration of that event. She was living a full and productive life independent of any care. Marian loved people in all walks of life and especially enjoyed social relationships and the opportunities to fellowship with both family and friends. Although Marian never bore children of her own, she was much loved by her step-children and step-grandchildren and influenced their lives for Godly good over the years. After coming to Lansing, Marian worked 18 years as bookkeeper/office manager at Woolworths. From there she worked as policy analyst for the Dept. of Commerce, Insurance Bureau, until retirement. She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl; parents Victor and Olga Johnson; her brothers, Ernest and Carl; step-grandson Duane Carpenter and step-granddaughter Michelle Carpenter. She is survived by her sister Linnea Markstrom; 4 nieces and nephews and their families, Joyce Kooman, Kaye (Alvin) Lewis, Daniel (Norma) Johnson and Ingrid (John) Pietsch; 3 step-children, Valerie Holsteen, Joyce (Frank) Carpenter and Karl (Phyllis) Kubler; their 6 children, Stephen (Mary) Fuller, Lisa (Tom) Seward, Cynthia (Jeff) Best, David (Nita) Carpenter, Amy (Geoff) Sherman and Karl, Jr.; and their 19 grandchildren. She is also survived by special friend Elizabeth Kubler Gagne. Marian had a strong faith fostered by her parents while worshipping in the LeRoy Covenant Church. She was active for many years in the DeWitt Community Church. Most recently she attended 1st Baptist Church of St. Johns with family. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 17, 11 a.m. at the 1st Baptist Church of St. Johns, 512 S. U.S. 27 with Pastor Tim Knaus officiating. The family will receive friends at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing on Monday, August 16, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Leroy. It was with great sadness that I learned of Marian's passing today. We had such a great time this Spring and I was lucky to spend several days with her in St. Johns. We also attended the Victorian Tea at the Historical Society in Le Roy, where we relished wearing our hats made of newspapers! We also drove by the old farm of her family as well as my mother's family. Marian and my Mom, Flo Kathy Hillis Sova, went to high school together. Marian gave me a small Swedish crystal vase and said that was for me to remember my Swedish friend. It seemed she may have known it was the last time we would see each other. I called her my
"Michigan Mom" after my Mom passed away in 2002. She will be in my heart always, I loved her so much. My love and best wishes to the family whom she loved so much.

Marion's composure was elegant at all times. Her loving heart reached out to friends and strangers a like. Her positive outlook on life is one to be admired and modeled. A loss to this earthly abode but definetely an asset to her glorious throne ! Len and Arlene Fuller

Marian was a beautiful and amazing lady. I met her a few years back and was always inspired by her- she was so kind and welcoming, a very classy lady. She will be remembered fondly. My sympathy and prayers to her family and friends.

I just thought this was the nicest lady I had ever meet. I will remember the times I walked her out to the bus and she would say "oh you dont have to but I do like it" My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Marian worked for my dad at Woolworth's. He talked about her as such a great person and hard worker and when I worked for my dad she made me feel welcome and happy to be there. She also was at my wedding 48 yrs ago, what a sweet lady. God be with all of you as I know he is with Marian and my mom and dad....

A wonderful mentor and friend...she was one of the best guest speakers I ever had in my classroom...and what a model for younger Christian women...she left her handprint and heartprint on many lives; and in that sense, she is with us both on earth and in heaven.

Joyce and Frank and your Family, My heart is so saddened learning of Marian's passing. She was a woman I have looked up to in many ways since getting to know her. My heart is heavy and I will miss her. I do know that we will all be together again. She lived her faith. She truly loved and enjoyed her family. My prayers are with you all. We were all blessed from knowing Marian.

Beautiful, graceful, artistic, joyous, precise, perfect...and that was just her handwriting! Marian was a dear, dear friend to all who knew her. Words fail us to say what she meant to us. We told her often that she was our "adoptive mom" because she was just too special and we loved her too much to just call her our friend. We will miss her terribly but the love we have for her and the memories she gave us will live on with us forever. The world lost a star but heaven just gained an angel. God Bless her.

Dave, Nita, and Family,
We are deeply saddened to learn of Marian's passing. She was a godly lady who showed us all how to age with grace and dignity. God has welcomed her home and she has heard "Well done" from her Lord. We will be praying for all of you in the days ahead. May God give you the strength you need during this time.
