Dear Suzy:

It was nice to meet you and your husband today, albeit under such sad circumstances. I had the privilege of sitting with your dad for the past 3 years here in Stamford. He was rightly regarded as one of the legends of the bench, a true gentleman that provided a great example for younger judges like me.
I also had the pleasure of appearing before him when I was still a prosecutor, and he really knew how to cut to the chase, helping to resolve a complicated white collar case with a fair and just resolution for all. He will be sorely missed, and I only regret that I did not get to spend more time learning from him.
As another judge commented on hearing of his passing, "He had a real twinkle in his eye, didn't he?" Indeed he did.

My deepest condolences on your loss.

-Judge John Blawie

I was so sorry to hear of your loss. The thoughts of many are with you at this time of sorrow.i worked with your Dad for 16yrs. when i was a sheriff and then a marshal guarding over him and his courtroom, he was never with out a smile and alot of times he would say "pull up a chair we are going to be here awhile " as the lawyers would argue. even though he was in charge he always made you feel as you were just as important and would crack a joke to bring a smile to your face . i for one will miss him deeply and he will always be in my prayers as will you & your family will be !!

Judge Nigro was my first "boss" when I became an intern in the Stamford State's Attorney's Office during the summer of 1976. I will always treasure the memories of how kind he was to a law student, and then when I became a lawyer and a Clerk in the GA he was just as kind. Over the years I enjoyed seeing him on the bench and occasionally appearing before him. He was a sweet man, a good lawyer and a compassionate judge. He will be truly missed. My condolences to all of his family.

A very smart, practical and caring Judge. He was the antithesis of those judges who liked to see young lawyers squirm. He was kind and considerate to attorneys, parties and witnesses who appeared before him, yet also was shrewd enough to see through to the truth. He also knew how to make a speech that was wise and witty at the same time. I always took special pride knowing he was from Greenwich.

My deepest sympathies in your time of sadness. Many years ago I had the honor of clerking the Stamford foreclosure calendar with the Judge. It was tax day, April 15, 1988 and we had both been pressed into service as the only two available. I knew nothing about foreclosures then and the Judge hadn't done them for a few years. He was very kind to me and said we would get through it and not to worry. He told the assembled foreclosure bar that he wasn't "there to do any damage." It took the entire morning and was unexpectedly a lot of fun. I truly appreciated his kindness that day and I have never forgotten it. Rest in peace your Honor.
