Ray Hasselo Obituary

Ray Hasselo

Ray passed away peacefully on April 14, 2012. He was born to Raemore and Mabel (Mabe) Hasselo on May 23, 1925 in Los Angeles, CA and spent his early years in Pasadena, CA. When he was four, the family moved to the Madrona area on Lake Washington and Ray graduated from Garfield High School.
He served in the South Pacific with the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII. Ray graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Business and Economics. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and was an avid Husky fan.
He met and married the love of his life, Dixie Dysart, another UW graduate in 1952. They settled in Seattle, WA until Ray was transferred to Everett, WA in 1960. At that time, he was Manager of American Linen but later started his own business, Near East International Imports with regular travels to Turkey.
He was a member of Rotary, Everett Quarterback Club, Boy Scouts of America, View Ridge and First United Methodist Church, Jubilee Dance Club and Useless Bay and Everett Golf and Country Clubs.
Ray and Dixie loved their bridge club and New Year's Eve Group friends and had many life long treasured friends and neighbors. He enjoyed traveling, sports, reading, fishing, boating, following the stock market, economics and current affairs.
Ray and Dixie traveled the world only missing India and Antarctica. Repeat favorites were Hawaii and Mexico where their daughters would join them. Ray's favorite place however was his treasured beach cabin on Mutiny Bay, Whidbey Island where he and Dixie and their girls have many happy memories. Those in Everett remember Ray with his adored black standard poodle, Newton, together around town. All, both young, old and furry, loved Ray.
Ray leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 years, Dixie; his daughter, Dayna Jueidi (MJ), grandsons, Drew of Salt Lake City, UT and Collin of Mukilteo, WA; daughter, Dr. Lael Paul (Dr. Greg) and grandsons, Mason and Ethan, of Bellevue, WA; He leaves a niece, Barbara Cross (Darrell) of Palo Alto, CA.
His parents and his sister Virginia predeceased him.
Ray was deeply loved by family and friends for his warmth, kindness, devotion, wisdom, sense of humor, outgoing personality and positive outlook. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, son and friend. He will be missed more than words can express.
We would like to extend our thanks for the superb care that Dr. Laird Findlay, his nurse, Donna and Dr. Michael Chun provided. Thanks to Washington Oakes Retirement Community where Ray and Dixie shared a special time in their lives. Loving gratitude to the Norm Smith family, Debbie Schlagel, Gloria Bullinger and we are so very very thankful for the extremely kind caregivers at Amy's Adult Family Home including Amy, Sama, Kim, Heather, Brittany and Jessica, those that cared for him before, and the residents and their families. We appreciate Providence Hospice who ensured Ray's passing was peaceful.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Association 100 West Harrison Street, North Tower, Suite 200, Seattle, WA 98119 or online at www.alz.org.
A memorial will be held at a future date.

Let's see -- it was about 25 years ago that Mr. Hasselo told me it was time to shift over to calling him "Ray". What a lifetime of memories I have of Ray -- my second dad! Rides in the car, playing in the driveway, meals at the kitchen table, visits to the beach cabins at Sunlight Beach and then Mutiny Bay. And that bright flash of a smile that always made me feel loved. I am so lucky to have had Ray in my life. His love is lodged, forever, in my heart.

Dear Dayna, Lael and families,
My sincerest sympathy at the passing of your beloved Ray. I feel fortunate to have known Ray since I was a young teen and have many fond memories of our frequent encounters throughout the years. Ray's quick smile and positive outlook shone through and were an inspiration. Ray always had a kind word for everyone he encountered. It is not a wonder his children and grandchildren are such warm, loving people. May fond memories and the love of family and friends carry you during the weeks and months to come as you grieve your loss.
Love,
Karen

Dayna and Lael, you were so fortunate to have a Father as kind and caring as your dear Father. I will always remember how kind he was to me and so, so friendly each time I spoke with him or saw him. He will be missed by so many people. I hope that the memories you have will comfort you. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
Love,
Elaine
