Ronn Andrusco Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 19, 2010.
Ronn Andrusco age 61 passed away December 18, 2010 in Houston, Texas.
He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, the eldest child of Peter and Doris Andrusco on March 15, 1949. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, his Masters degree in Statistics and his teaching certificate from the University of Manitoba. Of parallel interest and achievement was his career as a professional freelance violist performing with the National Ballet of Canada, Kitchener Waterloo Symphony Orchestra, Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Brantford Symphony Orchestra and many other southern Ontario orchestras. He was often invited to be a clinician and staff member at summer music camps.

He was also an avid sports fan, in particular baseball, hockey and football.
His interests in both baseball and statistics led him to make many close friendships with the baseball community in Wheeling, West Virginia.

After many years as a statistician with the Government of Ontario Health Department, he pursued a teaching career with the Toronto District School Board, culminating with four complete years of service with the Houston Independent School District at Westside High School. It was in Houston, TX that he found his greatest fulfillment enjoying to the fullest the people, food, culture and politics.

He is survived by his wife, Velma and son, Justin Ryan (A.J.) Andrusco, mother Doris Andrusco of Toronto, On., sister Linda (Kelly Hartle) of Port Perry, On., nieces Kimberly (Todd Roy and great nephew Adam, great niece Leah) of Toronto, On., niece Bonnie (Todd White) of Stoney Creek, On., and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his father, Peter and sister, Wanda.

We wish to extend gratitude and thanks to the many medical professionals, caregivers, support staff and volunteers at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospital, Vitas Hospice and MD Anderson Cancer Center. Particular thanks to Dr. Moradi, Dr. Morkus, Dr. Kavadi, Dr. Giralt, Dr. Qasilbash, Dr. Manhas, Dr. Medrano, Dr. Parikh, Dr. Patel and Dr. Walker.

Special thanks to the many friends, colleagues and students (past and present), who helped and supported Ronn during his courageous battle with cancer.

He held everyone to the same high standards and expectations that he held for himself.
"Aim for the top, it's less crowded there!"

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday December 21, 2010 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday December 22, 2010 in the Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel, 13001 Katy Freeway Houston, Texas 77079.

My sincere condolences go out to Mr. Andrusco's family. I was a student in his class when he first started teaching at Westside. We were blessed that Mr. Andrusco headed our Statistics program when we were in need. He was a fine educator and a great person. He never gave up on me when even I wanted to give up on myself. Mr. Andrusco will be greatly missed and his family and friends will continue to be in my prayers.

Dear Velma and Ryan: our deepest condolences go to you both and to Ronn's family. He had so many gifts and shared them such enthusiasm. I remember him fondly as a musical colleague way back in the Ottawa University and Civic Symphony orchestras in the mid-70s and in our early Toronto years also. We will never forget his kindness to us and to Carol's mom when we first moved to Toronto.

I am the great grandmother of a 15 year old student that had the pleasure of being in Mr. Andrusco's class. David was really having a hard time passing algebra but Mr. Andrusco was there for him, tutoring and encouraging him on.. letting him know that he believed in him. I asked my great grandson if he wanted to move to an easier algebra class, he quickly told me no, that he was in the correct class and wanted to stay there. I talked with Mr. Andrusco and then I understood David not wanting to leave his class. Mr. Andrusco had that magic touch, his understanding of students and his willingness to expect more than what the student was giving made him a great teacher and a good and awesome human being. He helped so many students and he will be missed by many, both young and old. May God be with his family and may he rest in peace.

I am honored to have met one of the best of *old school* teachers that still exist in this world. I appreciate a teacher who teaches with heart considering the future of our children...teaching no matter how hard it is to succeed...we must! Thank you for influencing my daughter's life in what it is to succeed. I've encouraged my daughter to honor you by continuing to practice what you've taught her. She agreed. Thank you and God Bless You and Your Family, Always.
