Shane Allen DeRouen was born on October 3, 1965, and was a 1983 graduate of NISH. He then obtained an associate’s degree in drafting from Southern Technical College. Shane had a diverse career as a sugarcane farmer, welder and fabricator, and most recently as an operator for BASF. An avid outdoorsman, Shane loved fishing, hunting, and camping in Grand Isle—his favorite destination, where laughter and stories often danced under the stars. Riding the side by side through the sugarcane fields he adored brought him immense happiness.

Shane took pride in raising show pigs many years ago, teaching his children the ropes of 4-H and instilling in them a work ethic that would last a lifetime. His passion extended to the stories he told, enchanting those around him as he recounted adventures and family tales. He had an uncanny ability to make friends wherever he went, his warm spirit drawing people in with genuine ease. A unique quirk he was famous for was “butt dialing,” an unintended but endearing signature of his affection for his loved ones.

Music held a special place in Shane’s heart, especially on Saturday nights when he enjoyed listening to Classic Country Saturday Night, eagerly awaiting the poignant strains of "Old Violin" at 8 PM each week. This tune became a soundtrack to cherished moments spent with family, gathering together in celebration of life and love.

Shane was a family man and loved spending time with them, especially his grandchildren, whose laughter lit up his world.

Tragically, his life was cut short too soon. In an act of selflessness reflective of his character, Shane gave the gift of life to many others as an organ donor, ensuring that his legacy of love and generosity would continue.

Mr. DeRouen is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Sheri Castille DeRouen; mother, Janell Hebert DeRouen; children, Leigh Ann Blanchard (Blake), Allison Thibodeaux (David), and Dexter DeRouen (Taylor Trahan); sisters, Chanda DeRouen Chauvin (John Pierre), and Kristie DeRouen Blanchard (Lane); and grandchildren, Ava Grace Frederick, Rylen Hebert, Ezra Thibodeaux, Murphy Blanchard, and Archie Blanchard.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Peter DeRouen; parents-in-law, Howard and Adley “Nickie” Castille; and brother-in-law, Randy Paul Castille.

Pallbearers will be Dexter DeRouen, Blake Blanchard, David Thibodeaux, Lane Blanchard, Todd Romero, and Shane Frioux.

Honorary pallbearers are Roger Hebert, Taylor Blanchard, Jack Chauvin, John Chauvin, and Nic Gremillion.

As we remember Shane, we do so with gratitude for the time spent in his presence, the stories shared, and the love he brought into our lives. His generous spirit will remain in our hearts. May he rest in peace.
