New Iberia – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church at 2:00pm on Thursday, October 30, 2025, for Wilda T. Placide, 95, who passed away peacefully on Monday, October 20, 2025.
Rev. Keith Landry will be the Celebrant.
Interment will follow at Beau Pre Cemetery in Jeanerette.
Visitation will be at Pellerin Funeral Home on Thursday from 11:00am until 1:30pm.
A rosary, led by Deacon Durk Viator, will be prayed at 12:30pm on Thursday.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers include Anthony Guillory, Sr., Bernard Pierre, Byron Shepherd, Allen Tatum, Bernard Alferd, Reginald Ward, Richard Herst, Tony Harris, Frank Wiltz, Irin Tauriac, Jr., Michael Tauriac, Sr.
Wilda Tauriac Placide was born in Lafayette, Louisiana on February 24, 1930, to the late Wilfred and Gladys Clay Tauriac. She lived a life rich in creativity, kindness, and genuine love for those around her.
A woman of many talents, Wilda delighted in crocheting and sewing, immersing herself in the art of crafting with passion. Her hands created warmth and beauty, leaving behind treasured pieces that encapsulated her love. She was also an avid puzzler, relishing the challenge of crossword puzzles and word searches.
Wilda’s spirited personality was as colorful as her favorite hue—purple. Known for her frankness, she had a gift for telling it like it was, often sharing her thoughts with heartfelt honesty. She took pride in “telling people about themselves,” a playful yet profound approach that endeared her to many.
Wilda’s culinary skills were legendary. Meals she prepared became family gatherings, filled with laughter and love. Her kitchen was a sanctuary where the aroma of her delicious creations mingled with the warmth of her presence.
Wilda cherished the simple joys of life, often indulging in the art of window shopping, finding inspiration and beauty in the world around her. Those who knew her could easily recognize her bright spirit, and the vibrant love she shared with her family and friends will be forever missed.
Mrs. Placide is survived by a son, Anthony Guillory (Mary); daughter, Emma Verdun; stepsister, Judy Anthony; stepbrother, Dwayne Williams; sister-in-law, Ida Hills (Edmond); 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mervin Placide; children, Gloria Guillory, Delores Fuselier, and Wilfred Guillory; and siblings, Irin Tauriac and Rita Heliman.
Wilda’s spirit and zest for life will remain etched in the hearts of all who knew her. May she rest in peace.
