Thomas Ronan Obituary

Thomas J. Ronan, 93, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014.

Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 26, from 2 to 4 p.m., with Rosary at 2 p.m., followed by a 4 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 3736 Lee's Summit Road, Independence, MO 64055. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Angels Cemetery, Basehor, Kan.

Thomas was born January 10, 1921, to Anna B. and Michael Ronan. He graduated from Blessed Sacrament Catholic Grade School in Kansas City, Kan., Bishop Ward High School (Class of 1938) and Kansas City Business College. He served in the 75th Army Infantry Division/Battle of the Bulge in WWII and received many certificates of appreciation. He married Inez Mae Wilson on April 11, 1942, and through this union 7 children were born. He worked at KC Southern Railroad for over 40 years until his retirement. He was a long time member of St. Mark's Catholic Church; past President of the St. Vincent De Paul Society; a member of the American Legion Post 21 (Harry Truman's Post); Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 3717; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #01000.

Thomas was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Inez, on May 14, 2009; and siblings, John Bernard Ronan, Margaret Ronan Keating, Rita Ronan Yoksh and Kathleen Ronan.

He is survived by his children, Nancy Ronan, Mike Ronan, Donna Ronan Hoeper (Gary), Kathy Ronan O'Toole (John), Maureen Ronan Dierkes (Bill), Paula Ronan Stinnett (Bob) and Joe Ronan (Teresa); 14 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Family was very important to him and many family celebrations were enjoyed on the deck at the family home. Tom was very proud of his 100% Irish heritage, and the family's many award-winning St. Patrick's Day floats. He loved gardening and was known for his begonias.

Special thanks to the staff of Crossroads Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Mark's St. Vincent De Paul Society; Down Syndrome Guild or Bishop Ward High School.

My thoughts were of Tommy and the time he spent in Europe during World War II and the Battle of the Bulge with some of the thoughts he might have had dealing with the violence and uncertainties.
There were moments, I'm sure, when Tommy's thoughts would wander and his thoughts would be of home and his beloved wife Inez Mae. He would remember their wonderful wedding and about their belated honeymoon in New Orleans. A day that he would never forget. He thought about the news that Inez Mae was pregnant and finally about the wonderful announcement that he was the proud father of a baby girl. Nancy Jean, the prettiest girl in the world or as only Tommy could express, "or damn close!"

Tommy closed his eyes and whispered, "I hope she will be good at basketball or baseball," he smiled. "At the very least," he continued, "I'll have two of the prettiest girls in the world."

"I know that my Inez Mae will be waiting for me when I come home," he continued with tears collecting at the corner of his eyes, "No matter where I am she'll be waiting. I can almost see her now with open arms saying gracefully, "Welcome home Tommy Ronan, you're home at last."

Our sincere condolences to the Ronan Family and especially to Nancy.

God Bless -

Fran and Abe. . .

I'll always remember his "Brash" exterior which could never mask his "Heart of Gold". He made quite an impression on me.
Love you Uncle Tommy. Give Aunt Inez a hug from me.
May the smile of God light you to Glory.
