Wilmer Laub Obituary

Laub, Wilmer James Robert
born December 10, 1921, passed away August 14, 2012 in Mesa, Arizona at the age of 90 years and 8 months. The 5th of 9 children born to Henry J. Laub and Elenora Stegmeier Laub, he was raised in Heil, North Dakota and graduated from high school in Elgin, North Dakota. He proudly served his country during World War II as a radar specialist on Okinawa, Japan. Known by his friends as Bushy, due to his thick and wavy hair, he returned to Elgin following his military service working initially with his Dad, and then brothers, to build and run Laub Motors, Inc. and farm the land he so loved near Heil. He married Neyla Norma Rieger January 6th, 1949 and together they raised three children in Elgin and continued to build their lives within the community. In the early 1980's, as empty-nesters and following the destruction of their home from a tornado in 1979, they moved to Bismarck, North Dakota where Neyla worked at MedCenter One and Wilmer commuted to Elgin as he continued to own and operate Laub Motors. As a couple they spent a number of winters in Arizona, enjoying the companionship of their many, many friends, their children and two grandchildren, until 1999 when they made Mesa, Arizona their permanent home. Wilmer lost his best friend, and wife of 61 years, when Neyla passed away on May 15, 2010. Throughout his life he was a man of wit, humor and compassion, speaking with an outer strength that belied a heart brimming with love, generosity, and kindness. Until his last days he relished being Dad to his children James Jay Laub and Jim's wife Tarver, Margaret Marie Laub, and Lori Lynn Laub, and Papa to his two dear grandchildren Shayna Noel Laub and Anthony Barrett Sinclair. He leaves one sister, Darlene (Dardy) Laub Rothschild and was preceded in death by his oldest sibling and sister Erna Laub Murray and brothers Elmer, Milton, Clarence, Warren, Junior, and Stanley. He will lay at rest with Neyla at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery in Mandan, North Dakota. Here is one last nic-nic to our Dad and Papa. We love you and will miss you. Oh, the warm, fond, and loving memories. Holidays at the Laub's were so wonderful (although I always wondered how both Neyla and Wilmer were able to put up with all the screaming kids). That he is now with his beloved Neyla should give all those left behind comfort and joy. Celebrating Wilmer's life is something we can all do. He will be missed. Peace to the Laub family. My Uncle Wilmer and Aunt Neyla have always had and continue to have a special place in my heart. They have always been such a role model in my life. On my wedding day, I told my new husband, "that is who I want to be like when we grow up". They were just so classy, and caring of each other, and everyones lives that their lives touched. They were both very positive people, and never had a bad word to say about anyone. If I would have ever had to choose another family to be a member of, it would have been THE LAUB family. I will miss them so!! I am glad though that they have rejoined each other again.
I love you all, Bonnie Lou Rieger Reger

What a Man. He will live forever in our hearts as the Greatest Man we have known. Clyde and I loved Wilmer and Neyla like our own parents and will also miss them very much. We have so many great memories and have always felt welcome and loved by them. I rejoice that they are once again together and free of the pains and aches of this world. We pray that God gives you all peace and heals your broken hearts.

Lori, Margaret & Jim~ It really makes me sad to know both of your parents are gone. They were a wonderful example of a happy marriage and always so warm and welcoming. Treasure your time with family and friends celebrating your wonderful Dad and sharing those dear memories.

This message is for Jim, Tarver, Shayna, Margaret, Lori, and Tony. I want you to know my heart grieves with your hearts.. When I experienced my father's passing I thought I would be fine because I was an adult. However when I got the news I was a little girl and I wanted my daddy. My heart also rejoices with your hearts because I know your dad was ready to go. AND TO UNCLE WILMER I SAY I LOVE YOU, I AM GLAD YOU ARE IN THE PRESENCE OF CHRIST, GOD BLESS YOU, AND I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU WHEN I GET THERE. Gail Rieger

Dear Laub family, You had a very loving and special relationship with your parents that is something to hold dear. They not only gave you all their love, but they received it in spades back from you. You were blessed as were both of them. You will always miss their physical presents but their love will remain a warm glow forever. Both of your parents were very warm and special folks who we really enjoyed talking to when they visited. Our prayers are with all of you. Kathy & Steve Vowles
