Yan Leong Obituary

Yan Tai Leong

Yan Tai or Philip, 97, of San Francisco, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2013 in his "Fremont Hills Assisted Living" home. He was born on January 21, 1916, in Berkeley, California, the son of the late Leong Doon Wo and Leong Sun Hing. Phil, the eldest, had two younger brothers (Fred and George) and four younger sisters (Theresa Leong, Helen Dang Woo, Mary Fung, and Mabel Lum). He was preceded in death by Helen, George, Fred, and Theresa. In 1942, during World War II, Phil enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his country proudly as an Airplane & Engine Mechanic, before being honorably discharged in 1946. Phil was employed by the United States Postal Service as a Mail Carrier, before retiring after 38 years of dedicated service. On September 19, 1966, Phil married Tam Yuk Wan from Zhongshan, China.


He enjoyed spending time socializing with family and friends over a meal, leisurely walks, car rides, watching 49er football games and classic John Wayne and Dirty Harry movies.


He is survived by his wife, Yuk Wan, his three children, Janet Leong Belton, Dr. Shirley Jean Leong, and Gary Wayne Leong, his two grandchildren, Alexa Noelani Belton, Madison Leinani Belton and his son in law, Maurice Belton


The funeral service will be held on Friday, March 15, 2013 at 11:30 at Green Street Mortuary in San Francisco, and followed immediately by the burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Colma. Family and Friends of Phil are welcomed to attend.
