Julie Burris Obituary

Julie Cook Burris VISTA/CARLSBAD -- Julie Burris passed away the morning of Thursday, February 4, 2010, surrounded by her family and friends. She was a California native; born Julie Anne Cook on January 19, 1965 in Stockton and growing up in Carlsbad. She earned the nickname of "Bug" early in life. It doesn't take much imagination to guess why. Her family and oldest friends will always and affectionately remember her by that name. She was an animal lover and caregiver; often preferring the company of her furry children over people. Her colleagues would categorically affirm that she set the standard in her career and passion of Veterinary Technician. An honorary award in her name has been established at her place of employment (Mohnacky Veterinary Hospital) to be given as recognition of outstanding performance in her field. She also passed the gift of life to others as an organ donor through LifeShare. Julie was preceded in death by her mother, Ilo Cook Poradosky. She is survived by her father, Robert Cook of Minden, Nev; her sister, Lora Cook of Colorado Springs, Colo.; brothers, Jim Cook of Boise, Idaho, and Mark Cook of Carson City, Nev. A quote from George Elliot would describe Julie for all that met her... "Animals are such agreeable friends...they ask no questions, they pass no criticisms." The family requests that memorial donations be made to the San Diego Humane Society North Campus (619) 243-3401 or www.sdhumane.org. Sign the Guest Book online obits.nctimes.com

I knew Julie from my sister Lisa. Was also good friends with John B. Julie was an very upbeat type of person. Always happy, smiling and laughing from my memories of her. Those were good times! I too lost touch with her so long ago! The world has lost a good friend! My condolenses to her family. She is now where we all hope to be someday! Just too soon!!!

Julie B... thanks for introducing me to a "carne asada burrito" so many years ago, I think I can blame you for my addiction! You were a great friend and your love for animals goes far beyond any words the world offers. You had an amazing heart and you will forever be remembered and missed. Thanks for all your hardwork and dedication to the animals. My thoughts and prayers go to your friends and family. Much love.

I am completely shocked and so unbelievably sad of hearing of Julie's passing. I often think of her and wondered how she was doing in life. We were such great friends, thinking of ourselves as sisters really. Somehow, we lost touch over the years and that really saddened me. I always hoped she had found happiness. My thoughts were that we would find each other again and pick up where we left off. I can't believe that will never happen now. My thoughts now are with her family and friends. God bless and peace forever.
