A Mass of Resurrection will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at St. Paul Catholic Church with the Monsignor Gerald L. Lewis, officiating. The burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors.
He was a native of Kansas City, Mo. and resided in New Bern for 20 years. He served in the U. S. Navy and the United States Air Force, stationed in California, Guam and Maryland. Bob earned a Master's Degree from George Washington University and retired from NSA as a Systems Analyst.
He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and served as head usher, altar server, Eucharistic Minister and was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. Bob volunteered as a CCD instructor and a Boy Scout Master, to the Senior Pharmacy and the Man To Man Prostate Cancer Program.
Bob is survived by his wife of 40 years, Shirley P. Blackwell of the home; one son, Vincent DePaul Blackwell of Camp Hill, Pa.; two daughters, Dwynne Marie Blackwell-Furberg of Moraga, Calif. and Andrea Maria Blackwell of Minnesota; and four grandchildren.
The Rosary will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010 at Oscar's Memorial Chapel followed by visitation of friends until 7:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society c/o Man-to-Man Support Group, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC 27834.
