Steve Ipock Obituary

VANCEBORO - Rev. Steve G. Ipock, 66, and his wife, Diane Coward Ipock, 63, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 27, 2014.

A joint funeral service will be conducted on Saturday at 11 am in the West Vanceboro Church of God by the Reverends Robert Worthington and Chris Elks. Burial will follow in Celestial Memorial Gardens.

Stevie was a lifelong resident of the Vanceboro community of Craven County. He was employed as an electrician at Texas Gulf for a number of years and later at Weyerhaeuser and NADEP at Cherry Point until retiring due to disability in 1997. He accepted Jesus Christ as his savior and soon after started a prayer group that became Maul Swamp Reunion Chapel, which is now Covenant of God Church. Stevie was still serving as the church's senior pastor.

Diane also a lifelong resident of the Vanceboro community, and was employed at Bosch in New Bern for more than 30 years, retiring in 2001 as purchasing agent. After her retirement she helped care for her grandchildren and supported her husband in his ministry through Covenant of God Church.

Stevie and Diane were preceded in death by Stevie's parents, Raleigh and Evelyn Adams Ipock and Diane's mother, Ida Lee Wetherington Coward.

They are survived by their daughter, Kim Tyree and husband, Jay, of Ernul; grandchildren, Taylor and Logan; Stevie's sister, Sondra Ipock Riggs and husband, Dennis, of Pollocksville; Diane's father, Allen Coward; her brother, John Allen Coward and wife, Nancy; and her sister, Sandra C. Elks and her husband, Chris, all of Vanceboro; their nieces and nephews, Chris Elks, Jr., Tracy Coward, Randle Elks, Rodney and Randy Riggs; and many special cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends Friday at West Vanceboro Church of God from 6 to 8 pm and at other times at their home on River Rd.

Memorial contributions may be made to Operation Smile, 3641 Faculty Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA 23453.

I knew Steve from growing up while living and working within our counrty store “Dick’s Groceries”. Steve & Diane lived across from us on Hwy 17 and I saw much of the both of them. Because of the store and it being the local gathering place for farmers/hunters/fisherman, mostly one and the same person, I would get to go hunting with the group. Steve, Shady Ray & Pete Ellis and others would gather at the store, stand around the heater and make the hunting plans for the day. Steve and I and sometimes his dad “Sparky”, Mr Raleigh to me would all ride to the “Back Woods” to run the dogs, chase a buck and eat cold pork & beans for lunch, life was good. I knew Steve then and I knew him later as a child of God and servant to the Lord. Diane was his rock and Jesus was his Lord.

We were proud to be part of this great family on this earth. We were accepted as blood from day one and can not express how these two people helped build us into the people we are today. We will always be eternally grateful for what they have done for us and all that they have touched far and wide. They were great examples and should be an inspiration to us all. May God continue to bless you and your entire family as we continue this walk.

God open the window of heaven and took two angels home. He open heaven's front door and sent their love back to us in the form of snow. Their Love for us is so strong it covered eastern N.C. and continues to pour out even into Texas. What love only the love of our Father could be so strong.

The Bible says do not grieve the loss of a Christian, but celebrate their life, for now they have life eternal!!! Our Lord called them home, because he needed two angels who touched so many here!!!

lives. My Mama, Daddy, Sister and Brother-in-law were only a few of them. Their faith in God was shared in many
special ways my family and I will never forget. I know they have been welcomed into Heaven by these people they have loved dearly. They will be missed by many. All my thoughts are with you Sandra and Chis and Family.
