JAMES NESTOR Obituary

James Michael Nestor, 65, died of lung cancer at the Port Orange Hospice Care Center on Aug. 20, 2010. James was born on June 22, 1945 in Miami, FL to Clare and Anne Nestor. He graduated from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and received his MBA from Stetson University. James served in the United States Army from 1965 until 1973, attaining the rank of Captain. He served 2 tours of duty as a helicopter pilot in the Vietnam war and was awarded countless medals, including the Purple Heart. On June 29, 1985, James married Janet Simmers and they recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. He lived most of his life in Daytona Beach and worked at Daytona State College as a Business Professor until retiring in Dec. 2007 after 29 years. He will be especially remembered for his years of dedication to higher education. Jim was a member of the Daytona Beach Golf Club and was the 2002 Daytona Beach Men's Golf Assoc. Senior Champion. His only regret was never getting a hole in one. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 4401, a member of the American Legion Post 361 and the Halifax River Moose Lodge. Jim had a great love of family, golf, and his "Devil Dog" Rudy. Survivors include his wife, friend and lover, Janet; as well as his mother, Anne, Port Orange; daughter, Kimberly Simon and her husband, Shawn and children, Amy, Kevin, Natalee and great-granddaughter, Abby, of Columbus, Ga.; daughter, Heather Schwegler and her husband, Edward and children, Edward, Jr. and Alexis, Edgewater. Jim will be greatly missed by his in-laws, relatives, friends, former co-workers, golf buddies and students. He was preceded in death by his father, Clare and his in-laws, Betty and Andrew Sabo. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a Memorial Service at the Embry Riddle Interfaith Chapel on Sat., Aug. 28, 2010 at 2 pm. A celebration of his life is to follow at Daytona Beach Golf Course Clubhouse on Wilder Blvd. at 3:30 pm. Please join us. Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to the Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler County, who helped Jim pass away peacefully and with dignity.
